I am a high school senior, and I plan on going to UCR and graduating in 3 years instead of 4 with my AP credits–meaning I would have to gather about 45 credits before this fall (I’m also planning on taking some classes over summer to meet the 45 credit requirement). I also want to get a major in history, and I know that there aren’t many courses required for that path in fresh/sophomore year, so I’m guessing my APs will come to an advantage.

4 units credit toward Natural Science (Physical Sciences)
12 units elective credit
Credit towards: English 1A, Poli Sci 10, History 17A, History 17B, Math 9A <– THIS is what I’m confused on.

So I’ll have 20 units of credit, in addition to 5 classes worth of credits?? Will those 5 classes’s credits be counted towards my 45 units? ie: because each class is usually 4 units, I’d have 20 MORE units from those 5 classes?

No, you don’t get credit twice. You have twenty units of credit that is applied to those five classes.

From my understanding, when you get credit for AP classes, it’s applied to specific classes at the university, you don’t just have 20 units floating around on your transcript as “AP credit”.

Assuming you pass the exams, you’ll have 20 units worth of credits, which is 5 classes. It’ll be difficult to get up to 45 credits with just that and some summer classes.

I understand your response, but I’m confused on the numbers

According to the UC page, I’d have 20 units + credit for those classes–those 20 units came from different AP tests than from the credit I’d get towards the 5 classes.

Ah. It would have been easier to understand what you were saying if you had listed the AP classes that you’re taking - I thought you were saying that you had 5 classes worth of credit, not more than that. I don’t know the answer to your question, I’m assuming you’d get the 20 units of credits from the classes along with the 20 units of credits towards those specific classes. I’m assuming the difference between credit for a class and unit credit is just that some AP classes have course equivalents at the school that the credit is applied to, while other classes don’t. This kind of specific question is probably more appropriate for the school, then you’ll get an answer that you know is right.

Here are the APs and my scores (I checked, and Riverside does accept 3s):
APUSH–4
AP Bio–3
AP Language and Comp–3
AP US Government–will take this May, most likely will pass
AP Physics B–will take this May, most likely will pass
AP Calculus AB–will take this May, most likely will pass
AP Literature and Comp–will take this May, most likely will pass

I think I’ll call UCR tomorrow just to make sure.
