If you think the photos look fine on the screen but not when printed out that seems like a printing problem. How are you printing them?
The quick way to check if an iPhone picture would print well is to do a finger pinch zoom of the image. I have tons of pictures that look lovely on the camera screen; I delete them if they don’t look decent on the screen. But once I zoom in, I can see the details are blurry.
Here’s a suggested way to calculate if a phone shot would print decently at different sizes:

Open the Photos app and select your picture.
Tap the Info (i) icon or swipe up on the image.

I tried this calculation with a recent picture.
It tells me I could print at 13x10 “. But then I did a pinch zoom on the screen and the screen shot tells me I wouldn’t be happy with a print.
So in the end, if all you want are printed memories in a small photo book, or pictures for digital frames etc., phone and smaller pixel cameras are fine. If you want quality prints, you need higher pixel captures.

And continuing, phones are designed to make the pictures look good in ways that can’t be duplicated in print.

As someone who has spent their career in graphic design for print and online and iPhone or Android can take great photos that can be printed out. I have done it many many times – for commercial products, even, that are distributed worldwide. Not just talking about hanging a family photo on the wall.
