Discussions Gates Millenium Scholarship - 2010-2011

Congratulations Ohboi

Finalist! Woot

What is your race?

African American.

Also, if you are selected as a finalist, does anyone know how they narrow down to who actually gets the scholarships? Like, does just being a finalist mean more of a chance than not?

I think you just have to turn in all of the required documents.

Oh my God. I just got teary eyed and almost peed my pants (bahahaha). I’M A FINALIST… Congratulations to all who have advanced to this level. I kept refreshing since 3:30 today & got the email when I got home!

By the way, I’m African American, Apache, and French, but I just went with listing as AA!

By the way, received email at 4:42 p.m, EST (when I was on the way home).

I’m AA too. (: Good luck to the rest

Does anyone know how many finalists proceed to get the scholarship…

1000 actual scholars. Gates MILLENNIUM Scholarship :)

Oh my goshhhh!!!
My sister and I are both Finalists!!!
Yep. We pretty much cried. :D

Arielle

well like i mean, what percentage of first round pickers get to scholarship status… like out of a pool of 500 asians, how many became the 100 asians who get the scholarship…

any hispanics find out yet? :frowning: i’m getting really nervous.

@jtm2292: I looked for it in last years threads, but apparently that info is never released. Plus, it varies from year to year since different numbers of people apply each year I guess

@Arielle CONGRATULATIONS! Are you and your sister twins?

Thanks HeyBurrito! CONGRATULATIONS to you too!!!

No; but we are in the same grade because she was held back in first grade due to surgery.

But anyway, Seriously! CONGRATULATIONS everybody!!!

Arielle

AWESOME ANYWAY @ArielleT! My mom screamed and flailed around hahahah :D

Good luck! Let me know if you become a scholar :)

-S

Lol. I received the email first and we had to interrupt the meeting we were in for like, a mini prayer.

At first, when we told our mom, we were like, “Only one of us moved on…” It was way funny.

You also!

Arielle

I surprisingly calm about this scholarship. Maybe I just don’t know the extent of it

so… what makes a finalist different from a chosen Gates Millennium Scholar?
Do they look at your entire application again?
Or, do they look at your income/school/ethnicity?
Or is it rather a comprehensive thing, everything put together?
I’m so nervous…

OMG I’M A FINALIST!

I never in a million years would have thought I could be one…oh my God, I am in complete shock.

I’m Asian, btw.
