charissa…that sucks.

Sweetea, I called and the automated lady said a letter was sent out. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Also, does this mean we wont be getting an e-mail?

I accidentally filled the 2009-2010 FAFSA form in December. On February 22, I realized that the wrong FAFSA form was filled out and submitted a 2010-2011 on that day. Would this have affected the decision process? When I received the confirmation e-mail in January, it said that they wanted FAFSA done by February 15. Also, was I suppose to send in any extra materials? Such as my parents’ tax return forms? I’m really worried because I’ve been refreshing my e-mail the whole day and still haven’t gotten a response.

charissa: im sooooo sorry omg that sucks :(

vikas: i got the same message and idk what to think right now either. it’s just something to look forward to so i can give my email refresh button a rest :/

That should not have affected the decision process

also, i believe no more emails will be sent out. usually gms sends out a mass email in one batch between certain hours and seeing as how the asians got notified first this year around 2pm est i’ve lost hope :(

@ashley2010

As long as you submitted your 2010-2011 FAFSA before Feb. 15, 2010 you are okay. You weren’t supposed to send any materials, the only thing you needed to turn in was the application and recommendations, that was all. If you are a finalist, they will ask for extra materials.

Be patient, I’m still anxious too on receiving one.

Hispanic BTW.

Do not lose hope sweetea, there are still many emails to be delivered.

Really? I’m afraid because my friend is asian and he got his already. I am asian too…

angel0407: The problem is, it was submitted on February 22. I hope that they had considered my application. Also, when I called the number that’s shown above, it said that a letter was sent out for me as well. Hopefully, it will bring some good news! I sure need it!

sweetea: Does that mean that the chances for Asians that were not notified are now very slim?

@Plagu3 and Sweetea
So I really have no way of fixing this…? I’m going to talk to my counselor tomorrow of course, but, tomorrow seems so far away! This is making me panicky =(

Well the site does say that you must be eligible for the Pell Grant. And that sucks because the number of people that actually receive money is usually less that the number of people that they pick (i think) because of the same thing, not being eligible. My advice is to just go over your FAFSA and make sure everything is correct.

Yeah, I’m about to do that after I get any advice I can from my counselor.
Also, my friend told me not to list ROTH IRA? Would that help?

@ashley2010

As long as you submitted it you’re fine. They don’t check your FAFSA unless you’re a finalist, then they ask you to send some materials from FAFSA. I have a question for you: When you called 1-877-690-4677, did they tell you something like “A letter has been sent about your nomination status. As of March 8, 2010 we have received 0 of 5 documents to complete your file. You are still missing…” and then they ask for the five things that they ask the Gates Millennium Scholars Finalist. Did you get that too? Please tell me

Charissa, post your question about the Roth IRA on the financial aid board. There are several parents who would be able to answer any questions for you

@angel0407

are you a finalist? are they asking for the five things that the finalists need to send in? because if so that would be a different message from the ones that previous finalists have gotten

usually the automated voice thing just tells you that a notification (not specifying finalist or not) has been sent out

When I called, I also heard the thing about “you have 0 out of 5 forms turned in”. It’s definitely only for finalists, I’m not sure how it compares to last year.
Good luck everybody!

f…guess that answers if i’m a finalist or not
:'(good luck to all who made it~

@sweetea

When I called the number you wrote, it told me that a letter was sent about my nomination status. Then it told me that as of March 8, 2010 they have received 0 of the 5 things that are needed to complete my file. Then they tell 5 materials that I am missing and they are exactly the same materials for finalists. The voice did not tell me if I was a finalist or not. It just told me that I was missing those five materials. That is why I’m asking if anyone else got this, I don’t want to get to excited and I don’t want to lose the hope either.

I’m Hispanic BTW.

charissa:

You already got your finalist email, right? When you called, did you get that “0 out of 5” things too?
