Displaying tassels post-graduation

I did that with my college tassel (didn’t have a car when I graduated from HS). I don’t know where it is now - maybe I sold it with the car.

One of the benefits of having multiple masters degrees in engineering is that things that cost an arm and a leg are affordable (I just can’t do it every day!)

Yeah I figure it’ll cost $150 or so. Considering my education has run $100,000 to date, and if I do my next degree, it’ll add $50,000 to the total, $150 for a tassle display shadow box is relatively small.

No, I’m not doing it to impress others.

Honestly, why put art or objects or pictures up on the wall in the first place? Decoration. I have nothing on the walls in my den and it has a barren look. I was thinking that this might be something that fits me and might help take the stark and barren look out of the den. I’ll put more non-college related stuff on there too, but this isn’t the right place to talk about that.

Hopefully you can decorate with much more interesting art works than just old college tassels, especially spending that kind of money. Get outside your comfort zone and explore the world around you. There are many art posters that suit many diverse preferences available online. Much more pleasant to look at. You have many facets, engineering should not be the only part of you that you embrace.

If it is something that will give you pleasure, go for it. Other people’s opinions–other than those of the people you live with  --are completely irrelevant.

Generally, the only people I know who display diplomas are people with professional offices in which it is de rigeur. My H, for example, works in an office where they wanted him to display his CFA certificate. He had had it rolled up in the tube in which it originally came, 20+ years ago. They paid for the framing, or it would still be there, LOL.

I’m a lawyer and I’ve never displayed any diplomas, awards or the like in my office. Some of my colleagues/ former colleagues did, but most did not. I don’t have anything against people who do, but wall space is a precious commodity and I’d rather have room for art work, bookcases, white boards etc.

Regarding tassel colors, the high school tassel is the school colors of my high school. My undergrad college tassel is blue (school color). The first masters degree tassel is black (the masters hood that we wear is orange). The second masters would probably also be black (again, the hood would be orange).

Post #24 is the one to follow. None of us really care what you do. You asked, we responded.

I know you did and appreciate your responses. One of you asked what color it was, so I thought I should respond to that question. I don’t sit on cc all day so sometimes my responses are a bit delayed. Thanks for your responses. It also took me a couple days to figure out why it was black instead of orange.

I have a few years before acquiring the 4th tassel, so I really ought to focus on what needs to happen between now and then.
