I’ve read repeatedly that Ikea furniture from back in the day was decent, but that the new stuff is crap. I went and looked at it a couple of years ago, and I was not impressed with the quality.
Yhe Vietnam Vets are reportedly one of the best charities, and they pick stuff up.
DOn’t know about furniture and stairs, though.
My d sold her sofa on CL in a couple of days. She moved apartments and the sofa couldn’t make one turn in the stairs. It was very stressful. She paid the movers to take it to a nearby storage facility. Advertised it on CL. She met the potential buyer at the storage unit. She checked out the person on fb before meeting them and accepted cash only. A stressful situation was resolved pretty easily.
@mamabear1234 - I talked to dd and she was intrigued but decided it would be too far for her to drag furniture home. She also suggested Craigslist. That’s how she (with her boyfriend) have gotten her other furniture.
Its truly remarkable what some NY’ers will leave out at the curb after they move out, buy new furniture, get bored, etc. I know because I see it every Thursday in my neighborhood (large item pick-up day). I could easily start a thrift store with all the items left by the sidewalk.
^Bc it is hard to get rid of safely, and they KNOW someone will take it at the curb. You almost never see it there when the trucks come for garbage. It’s a pretty good unofficial recycling system!!
just sent you a PM I am sure my son and his two new roomies would love to take some stuff as they are moving in next week to their first apartment as new college grads
