Disturbing Michele Obama Video

Did you view the whole 8 minute clip before you decided to post that quote, StickerShock?

Of course, kluge. It’s what they do best—lob nasty, hairy, puss-filled fear bombs, all while puffing out their chests with pride, and claiming themselves such fine, patriotic, an upstanding examples of what a red-blooded American ought to look like.

This IS sad, but I think the main perpetrators are smart/thougtful enough to think about it a bit farther.

I doesn’t help the Republicans to attack Obama’s wife. They attacked Hillary when Bill was running and look how that worked out.

(BTW, I’m not an Obama fan.)

True, true, Amom2. I don’t get the wife-attack thing at all…

Shoot, I like the wife-attacking thing. It allows me to mention that Cindy McCain is a thief, a liar, and a former drug addict. Also a beer heiress. I don’t know what kind of speeches she makes, though.

A little harsh, don’t ya think?

I have an acquaintance who keeps forwarding “fear-bombs” to me and I am ready to ban her address from my email list. A political argument is one thing; fearmongering & smear attacks are quite another.

Not sure what it is about me that makes her think I will be swayed by all these junk attacks. Sad to say, many people are swayed by the shocking rumors making the rounds.

Mommusic, I have a friend who also regularly sends me the fear bombs, but in her case, she sends them to me so I can debunk them. Usually, it just takes a quick look at Snopes, and I can cut and paste in a synopsis of the debunking and include the link. I’ve also started including a link to this article on Factcheck.org: [FactCheck.org: That Chain E-mail Your Friend Sent to You Is (Likely) Bogus. Seriously.](http://www.factcheck.org/specialreports/that_chain_e-mail_your_friend_sent_to.html) And I always hit “reply all.”

But most importantly, I always preface the links with a comment along the lines of “I appreciate you forwarding this to me. Isn’t it amazing what some people will believe? I know you well enough to know that you (and your friends) can’t possibly believe this tripe, but it never ceases to amaze me that some people would stoop this low in an important election year.” A little bit of respectful snark never hurt anyone…;)

You’re a much better person than I am, mezzomom. I’ve managed to alienate a conservative cousin of mine who WOULD NOT STOP sending me mean-spirited, anti-Democrat emails, almost all of which could be debunked in the 10 seconds it took to check Snopes.com. I finally sent her a blistering message to take me off her email list. Haven’t heard from her since. :(

The Irish Perspective:

[I’ll omit the Clinton & Obama comments which preceded this this statement]

Just jokin’ around, kids (lest anyone gets their bloomers in a wad over nonPC or something).

A relative of mine kept sending me e-mails about how Obama was a muslim, a terrorist, the long-lost son of Saddam Hussein (okay, maybe that one didn’t happen ;)), hated America, etc. She stayed at my house awhile ago while she was in town and I left my “Obama '08” button prominently displayed in the room she was sleeping in…

Awww, thanks, Hindoo…although I really don’t deserve it. Believe me, if my thoughts were readable, I would also be amongst the shunned!

That’s the same kind of garbage I was getting. The sad thing is, she was sending it out to at least 50 people. Whenever I debunked one of those things, I’d hit “reply to all.”

mezzo: Oh, I do send her the Snopes links or other debunks that I find. She ignores them or sends me another out-of-context quote from the link supporting HER side.

There’s no reasoning with some people…hard to tell if they are ignorant or malicious? And I get so angry it frightens me sometimes. I realize now this person is not really someone I want to call friend.

But to other people I can explain the error and they realize how silly they were to have spread the rumor. (Same with notices of deadly computer viruses from 2003…I have educated a lot of people to be suspicious & google for the facts before forwarding emails.)

Oh please…

I make no crazy claims about the Obamas. I posted her quote & video. It was NOT out of context. She spoke of ignorant behavior & then stated “that’s America.” I do not want a First Lady who thinks so poorly of her country. Sorry that I didn’t check out the race of anyone in the audience. Guess I was under the impression that blacks are not a monolithic voting block ready to march in lock step believing Michele’s crepe hanger rhetoric.

She did not say, “IF you are isolating yourselves, not engaging those of other backgrounds, I encourage you to stretch your comfort zone.” That seems to be the message many of you wanted to hear from her. (That would have been great.) Rather, she portrayed America as a flawed, ignorant nation.

Instead of which, the United States is perfect, which means, everybody is perfect. How wonderful.

Holy Cow, StickerShock. You really didn’t watch the whole 8 mins, did you? If all you took away from that video was that Michele Obama was 'dissing America, I think it’s pretty obvious that you don’t possess even the slightest ability to be fair or objective where the Obamas are concerned.

StickerShock why don’t you just listen to her speech in its entirety? Clearly you haven’t if you don’t think her comments weren’t taken out of context.

See? Look at what happens when you take statements out of context.

So are you saying that there is not a single ignorant person in America? Even IF you take her quote out of context (which you are), it STILL does not say what you say it does because she says “sometimes.” That’s a pretty key word. She doesn’t say “all the time.” She says “sometimes.”
