Sewhappy, wouldn’t diverticulitis have been seen during your colonoscopy? That’s how mine showed up. My gastro even printed out pictures of the “pockets” of diverticula for me.

Yes. That’s why this feels more like a scarring issue.

I completely fasted (as in just clear liquid) for two days followed by two more days of smoothies, clear liquid, not much else and I have been pain free. Cat scan tomorrow. We will see where this ends up?

Good Luck sewhappy, hope everything goes well

Hope you’re feeling better, sewhappy!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you, sewhappy. Praying too.

Thank you for the well wishes and also apologize again for interjecting my own health on the OP’s thread.

I feel better! In fact, I feel just fine. I simply fasted on clear liquids for two days after reading about the usual treatment for diverticulitis. After two days, I gradually added solids and steered clear of super high fiber foods because from what I understand you first need to really rest your gut, then focus on motility with fiber. I had a Cat scan this week and it showed nothing abnormal . . . but the terrible pain has subsided. It’s a mystery. The only thing I can come up with is that the back-to-back colonoscopies with two full nights of prepping disrupted my colon and it needed to rest.

It’s very humbling to experience severe chronic pain.

I’m beginning to think that occasional fasting just to rest the system might have some benefits. It wasn’t that bad of an experience.

As another diverticulite (just made up that word), this has been a very interesting thread. My mother and grandmother suffered from it, too, and always blamed seeds. My grandmother used to meticulously cut up her tomatoes. I haven’t really figured out what causes my bouts, other than popcorn. Besides pain, I get horrible gas and bloating. Believe it or not, when I feel symptoms coming on, I eat an untoasted bagel and am fine within a few hours. I swear that the sticky bagel is somehow able to clean out my intestine. It sounds strange, I know, but has worked for the last 5 years. My mother has been hospitalized three times and decided to have laparoscopic surgery last winter. Unfortunately, she had complications within a week of her surgery. Her intestine was leaking. I looked up the statistics and only about 2-3% of surgery patients experience this dangerous situation. It has finally healed, after about 4 months. I hope she can go back to eating tomatoes and berries.
