I’ll put in a pitch for UW-Whitewater: http://www.uww.edu/cobe/. Very good DIII basketball program, too. Whitewater is not a large city but it’s reasonably close to Madison and Milwaukee, for weekend excursions.
You could look at Otterbein in Ohio. I’m just mentioning it because one of my daughter’s former boyfriends got a Sports Management degree there. I lost touch with him years ago, but he did have a hard time finding a sports-related job after graduation, and initially ended up working on the sales desk at a Midas or Meineke muffler franchise. Sports Management is a hard field to find work in.
