DNA, Genealogy & Police Work Reveal ID of woman kidnapped over 30 years ago

@twoinanddone - Funny, how I thought something totally different from hearing the same thing. Your suggestion sounds much more on target than mine.

Fascinating story, @Consolation .

My brother and I had our DNA done on Ancestry. A year or so ago, I noticed a new relative showing up as a 1st cousin, between my brother and a known 2nd cousin. Since I had no idea who she was, I did some digging. With such a close relationship, I looked at my grandparents and census records. From what I can determine, my maternal grandfather is this woman’s biological father. My grandmother had divorced him for his cheating, and according to census records, he was in the same town as this woman’s parents. I have not contacted her, and she has not been on Ancestry since the results were published. I did tell my mother, who said she’d always wanted a little sister.

Update: the man who abandoned the little girl “Lisa” has now been identified. (I just saw the story.) Police now know that one of the bodies in the barrels found in a New Hampshire park was his biological child. He also had married and had a family; his wife left him in 1974. I’ll bet she’s so glad she did now!!! http://dearly.com/2017/08/21715-woman-abandoned-stranger-child-looked-dna-solved-another-mystery/ and, for a fuller account before his identity was established, https://www.forensicmag.com/news/2017/01/chameleon-killer-idd-culprit-four-new-hampshire-barrel-bodies-others The police still don’t know who the other 3 people found in the barrels are and/or what happened to Lisa’s mother.
