Do above ground pools have to be tacky?

Thank you.

Do pink flamingoes keep the geese away? If so, I’m on my way to buy some…and maybe a mirror ball too!

I’ve seen local golf courses use wolf silhouettes, but I personally recommend whirlygig birds or backside-of-woman-gardener-leaning-over figures myself. :)

Wow. OP here. This thread had some legs.

I guess the term “tacky” in my original post struck many as class conscious? Too funny. The tackiest people I’ve ever known have generally been the wealthiest. But then, I guess, class transcends wealth? I wouldn’t know . . .

It had been suggested to me by neighbors that the the above ground pool is lower budget and just not as “nice” as the in ground. Whatever. These neighbors put in an in ground pool last summer. The excavating and installation barely got done before the leaves were falling. And it’s a sad little pool.

I went and I got a quote and I can get an 18 x 40 pool that will sit flush with our existing deck that is 7 feet deep on one end with a heater and a cleaner and a solar cover for not much more that what it would cost to take us all to an island for a week. I am really, really excited. Love, love, love to swim. So does my DH. He was a college butterfly swimmer. I really love to watch him swim.

The kitchen remodel can wait. This is way more fun.

Enjoy your pool swehappy!

Sewhappy–your question didn’t strike me as class conscience.

Enjoy your pool!

Uh, could somebody spell it out for me: what shade of blue is it that you consider tacky? I really need to know. Somehow I’ve missed this.

Really enjoyed those Painted Lady photos, btw.

(or even “class conscious”). Yikes–::reminding self to proofread::

Good for you, sewhappy!

We are looking at a house this week that has an in ground pool, and when I am thinking about it I think the fence we’d have to put around the in ground to make it safe for pets/kids is going to be much more of an eyesore than a tasteful above ground pool.

When done properly, a fence around an inground pool is not even noticible

qdogpa-- if we get the house, I’ll PM you about that. :stuck_out_tongue: I probably don’t know how to do it properly!

For whoever considers blue a tacky color for a house – please go visit San Francisco, one of the loveliest and classiest cities on the planet. Houses there are often pastel colored, and blues are common. The effect is sublime.
