No social life = no social skills

no social skills = terrible interview

terrible interview = no HYP

Okay, so what else are you supposed to care about? I’m going to Columbia , and I care a great deal about my own future.

Yes, everyone cares about their future. But is it worth it to sacrifice everything just for the sake of going to a good college/getting a good job etc.?

Is this what life is all about?

“Colleges say that they base their admission on things like personality, work-ethic, extracurriculars etc.” Are they telling the truth, or is it all about the grades and the scores?

I don’t know. I know that they say that they do base their admission on things like what I said, but then I don’t know if it really true.

Anyone know?

Well, as I mentioned - my numbers and SATs were better than the vast majority of enrolled students at every school I applied to, and I (rightly) didn’t get in everywhere. The logical conclusion is that grades and SATs aren’t all that matters.

MIT and Caltech for sure would take a nerd over someone with a social life anyday, assuming the nerd is smarter.

yes… college would rather take a nerd than a person who has a “social life” (which in this debate has a unclear definition) and has lousy SAT scores.

wth kinda of question is that.

maybe if you rephrased your question as "do colleges want people who are passionate about their education and have great test scores and community service or nerds with perfect test scores and nothing else?

Lol, yeah…I know what you mean. It’s just that I can’t put that many words in a title… XD

You know what I mean though, right?

No, they can’t. It sucks, but they can’t.

I totally agree that grades and SAT scores are not everything. BUT, they do help determine the quality of a student and how he/she will fit into a certain college.

If you feel like the process for college is bad, try grad schools! I am going to be applying for law school soon and the process is at least 10 times worse. Not only that, the grades matter more than ever and your EC’s better be related to law somehow.
