Our schools just changed to physics first. Personally I liked the other system, Chem-Bio-Physics, and you had to have Alg 2 for honors. The majority of the students come in with Alg 1 under their belt.
Letâs move on from science sequence please
Yes - theyâll look at grades. Too late for you, but anyone considering super accelerating their child in math, take a hard look at this. Even the smartest kids may struggle with abstract math concepts if taught/taken too early. Brain development research says kids should be older when taking classes like calculus.
OP, yes, two Cs may/will impact your acceptance. First, your overall GPA will be lower. Also, many top schools donât want to see any Cs. Even in state UNC Chapel Hill applicants rarely get through with Cs.
It does seem to be a trend these days for parents to push their kids further ahead in math than their optimal placement (which may be advanced, but not as advanced as what the parents push).
Yes, even the kids with a lot of math aptitude can only do so much as their frontal lobe is still developing. There is just no reason to push ahead unless the child is so driven and achieving at extremely high levels.
As everyone has mentioned, your freshman and sophomore grades do matter to a degree at many schools. Although Iâm sure most schools do prioritize your junior grades and sophomore grades ahead of your freshman year, and do appreciate improvement and, to some degree, course rigor, you may have bitten more than you could chew. Nevertheless, whatâs done is done and you can now focus on whatâs ahead of you. As every parent here has said, youâre going awfully fast in both math and science, so speak to your parent/guardian, counselor and teachers this semester to see how you can understand the current material and finish this semester strong. Maybe you will need extra help to understand the course or you may need tutoring. Consider moving to Calc AB next semester or maybe Bio honors if necessary and if allowed. Be wise in your classes next year so that you can avoid being in the same predicament and so that you can be prepared and ready to understand and excel next year.
Regardless, try to actually enjoy high school. As for college, there will be a school for you. If you do want to apply to a BS/MD program, go for it, itâs fine to be hopeful and optimistic but be prepared that the chances of being accepted are remote and unlikely. However, your path to med school is still available at other schools such as your state flagship, a private target, or even the possible reach. Donât fret, just enjoy school, understand your courses, get help, and continue to realign your perspective. Good luck!
