Do I have a chance? Transfer

Hello there!

We’re actually in really similar situations – I’m thinking about transferring for Fall 2016 for the same major as well haha.

Overall, I’d say that you have a decent chance? The upward trend in GPA is really good and will definitely add to your application! Also, your extracurriculars reflect your interests which is wonderful too.

I will say that that the low SAT and HS GPA are probably going to affect your application. While I think your point about past scores is very valid, it seems that transfers are inherently put in a difficult position because the admissions officers don’t have much to work with, given that we’re only able to send in our first semester grades.

Looking here (https://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/fast-facts.html), the average unweighted HS GPA for undergrads is +3.5 while the average SAT is 1900-2140. I don’t know if the stats are more or less competitive for transfers, but it’s worth considering

If anything, there is always the option to transfer as a second year where high school grades and test scores aren’t even submitted?

Oh, and also! I don’t know how much applicants benefit it they’re re-applying. I got rejected last year as well, so I’d like to know…
