Do I have a right to be mad?

I didn’t expect my tutor to take charge of my work. I am just frustrated that she directed me towards the ACT.

You should have had info showing 2 choices, the ACT or SAT, looked into those choices.

That’s “should,” and sure, not everyone does. But before blaming another, ask yourself your part. And do you blame her for the B- grades?

You mention anxiety when you took the ACT and forgetting info. I’m sorry about that, but a tutor can’t control for that. If you feel you tried your best, focus on that.

Of course I don’t blame her. I don’t blame her for the scores I got. I didn’t mean for it to come off like that. I’ve known my tutor for 3+ years before she became my ACT tutor. I guess maybe the frustration is deriving from me and placing it onto her. I don’t know. I didn’t have extensive knowledge of either test, so when she only showed me the ACT, and prepared for that, that was the only angle I could go off of.

As for anxiety, yes that is my own problem. I finally received medication for it right around Thanksgiving.

Blaming others is not a good look, particularly when you are incredibly fortunate to have a tutor. You had two years to figure this out. Take ownership and move on.

Don’t forget. Tons of kids take the ACT. in some parts of the country, it’s many high schools’ preferred set.
So wait for the new scores and see. But find matches and safeties you can be happy at, thrive at, and afford.

I generally advise students to take both tests. I may recommend one test as probably being better for a particular student. However, I would not say one test is better or easier than the other.

You have every right to feel whatever you are feeling. That said? My advice as a fifty something year old person? Blaming somebody else for choices you’ve made isn’t going to change anything. Yes. Somebody gave you advice that didn’t work out. My suggestion is to learn from this. What can you do differently? Perhaps research both paths (in this case tests).

The upshot of this is that as you get older? People will give you their best advice. However it doesn’t mean this will work the best for you.

I can give you an example as a parent.

When we bring home a newborn we are scared. A tiny life is in our hands. There is an industry built around raising children. We’re told what we should do in order to make sure our children grow up with everything we wish for them.

However? You soon learn. Nobody is the same. Every one of us have different needs. Every one of us learn differently. Every one of us experience things in our own unique way.

This to me is a life lesson.

In this case? You’ve learned this. What works for somebody else may not work for you.

Common sense says try one and if you don’t like the result take the next test in the other exam so you can compare which test is best for you.
