The AP breakdown is this:
Not all UC’s do this, in fact we seem to be unusual in this regard. However, we also have a LOT less GE requirements than other UC’s that allow you to use AP’s for GE’s. It’s kind of galling at first, but in the end GE’s aren’t all that bad. They seem to be a nice buffer for your GPA.

1) AP classes can count as a pre-req. Say you want to take Calc B as a GE or even as a class for your major instead of starting with A. The pre-req is Calc A, but Calc A is satisfied by a 5(?) on the AB test or a 4 on the BC test. Awesome so you can take Calc B first go. The catch is that you have still only taken ONE GE course, not 2.

2) AP Clases ROCK at getting you an EARLIER TIME TO REGISTER!!! You will loveeeee having AP credits come pass-time, I swear.

3) Also, appropiate AP scores in calc and english will allow you to skip the placement exams at orientation.

4) Lastly. You probably wouldn’t have gotten in without those AP’s anyways, so just let it go
