<p>What I think made them stand out from the crowd was their teacher recommendations (one teacher gave each of them a copy of their LoR) and their essays, which they worked on for about 3 to 4 months.</p>

<p>I think Stuy makes a hard comparison for an international kid. The opportunities are different.
OP, the point in ECs is more than just naming them- and it’s more than a club title. It’s the responsibilities, commitment over time, and impact. You’ll have space to describe activities- what will you write? What impressions will that convey?</p>

<p>I also agree that H is far more than your description of why it attracts you (or could have, at 12.) Try to learn what specifically makes it a choice; many , many colleges offer the generalities you describe. In matching oneself, even without a specific Why Us? question, you have to get past generics. The colleges with fierce competition can look for evidence of that better “self matching.” </p>
