Do really beautiful people have trouble finding jobs?

I would say just the opposite. Especially for men, it never hurts to be attractive and tall. Women - maybe not so much of an advantage. Where I do see a negative bias is against overweight people, women in particular.

The more attractive applicants typically have the edge in intro sales jobs. I had a relative who was fired from a high level managelemt position form a well known cosmetics company because she wouldn’t fire an unattractive, but very competent, employee who worked int the make up dept of a dept store.

Height also gets the edge. Taller people are hired more esily than shorter people. Bummer for my s’s who are not very tall :(

Conversely, Jym, one of my husband’s former employers is a corporation dominated by short men. There are a few outliers on both ends of the spectrum but the vast majority of senior management are on the short side–about 5’6-5’10". At 5’10" myself, I always felt uncomfortable wearing heels in social situations lest I tower over very nearly everyone at the event.

Looks are definitely important for pharmacy reps. I don’t know if they matter as much for flight attendants these days.

I’d like to review that study about babies’ responses to faces. I wonder if it relates to bigger eyes, more smiles, and if it crosses ethnic lines.

I can tell you that it definitely doesn’t matter AT ALL. They used to have to be pretty, now they are just cranky and not pretty (or good looking for guys).

Bookworm -

As I recall, the study did indicate that babies respond to smiles - and Christie was smiling in the photo. However, the researcher did say that the babies gazed longest at her photo, even when compared to other smiling people. My son was also shown black and white photos of various items - cars, trains, etc. and color photos of the same things. He looked at the color photos much longer than the B&W photos, which was the typical response, I suppose proving that young babies recognize color.

Schmoomcgoo,
Do they happen to work for an elevator shoe company ? :D

What co is it? My s’s would fit right in!
