I can’t help with EU/UK scholarships either, perhaps @MYOS1634 can help.
But first let’s talk about this…in Sweden, college is free for its citizens, correct? While on one hand I can appreciate wanting to leave one’s home country to go to college, obviously that will come with a price, seemingly $ that you don’t have. Why not study abroad for a semester or even full year?
Can you take out loans in Sweden to pay for college costs in other countries? In the US international students can’t take out the Federal loans that citizens can, so you would be looking at expensive private loans…which your parents would have to take out or co-sign, so the burden of repayment would be on them.
The very first thing all prospective college students need to understand is their college financing budget. If your parents don’t plan to contribute substantially to your college costs, then studying in a different country may not be financially possible.
You are fortunate to have free college in Sweden.
Yes i’m extremely lucky to have free college in my country, and i will of course consider all of your advice regarding studies outside of Sweden. But i’m wondering if there is a way to find scholarships to study in the UK ( as an EU citizen ), because that may be a possibility and choice that i will take in the future.
I’m wondering if Brexit will impact your ability to get scholarships in the UK?
You may want to post your original question in the international sub forum.
I’m a new member of this site and don’t really know how it works, how do i post my original question in the international sub forum?
Here’s the link to the UK subforum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/united-kingdom/
Follow the link and then click the “new discussion” button. You can repost your question about UK scholarships specifically.
Thank you all for your answers and advice, i will definitely consider it.
Don’t post the same question as this one wasn’t very clear. State that you are Swedish, want to go to school in the UK, and ask about funding. State your year in HS and when you want to go to college.
I read that the UK pulling out of the EU really changed the tuition arrangement, that now EU students will pay full price. I think you will find that the former arrangement for a lower EU tuition was the financial aid that was available and that it hasn’t been replaced with other funds. That happens a lot in the US that when states have agreed to a reduced tuition for residents of another state, THAT’S the financial aid available and there is not more. If the program suddenly ends, the students are left with few options.
Where in the UK do you want to study? If it’s in England, I don’t think you are going to see a EU tuition benefit once Brexit goes through.
