But if you don’t…the world still isn’t over…
True.what I mean is that it’s more important to work toward an A than worrying about calc classes or “losing 2 uc pts” which won’t be lost anyway. … Doing well in the classes one takes is more important to college admissions than some imagined ideal schedule.
I meant by the uc uncapped gpa
You have two more years of school b4 you apply.
What if you don’t end up at a UC ? The world won’t end.
If you don’t it will be because you changed your mind and decided to go elsewhere, your grades slipped, or whatever.
It’s not because you are in Calc AB.
Everyone haas told you this and you continue to try and attack through another angle.
And guess what, if you go to Arizona or Oregon instead of a UC, your life trajectory will likely be no different.
There’s things to worry about in life - what college you’ll be at in three years isn’t one of them.
It won’t matter. Really.
Your UC uncapped will depend on classes taken through Jr year. Sounds like you’ve taken everything possible (perhaps too many).
NO COLLEGE ADCOM WILL THINK this kid took AB that one took BC I’ll admit #2. Nope. They’ll look at your cohort and will admit those with good grades overall and very good PIQs. (PIQs will rely on your experiences, self reflection, and writing skills. So, live - clown about playing racketball on a basketball court with your friends, go hiking and rock climbing in a redwood forest, watch a sunset in different places, try new food, try cooking, travel to Canada or Mexico and learn something from the experiences. W rite down your thoughts, reactions, and feelings.)
It will NOT depend on whether you took calc BC in 12th grade and it will NOT depend on points you will not lose.
In addition, as pointed out above, there are lots of colleges. What about Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona? What aboutcolleges that don’t have UC capped GPAs? Do you know how Stanford, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, LMU LA, USC, UWash Seattle and WashU St Louis, Tulane, UIUC, UMN , Grinnell, Carleton, Penn, Haverford, Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Davidson, GTech… Differ? Do you like UCD’s bike friendly campus? UCSC woodsy location? Which campus do you prefer, SDSU’s or Cal State Chico? What about their respective honors colleges?
There will be lots of colleges for you to get into, reaches, matches, and safeties. You’ll be fine.
If you want, join the mailing list at the private colleges listed above.
Go visit the nearest CSU and the nearest religious college then write down 3 things you liked about each.
I have 3 very accomplished children and they all got into their UC’s/Caltech/Yale/Hopkins, and other schools.
One was Salutatorian but he wasn’t trying for that. The other two didn’t care. You know what they did in high school?
They had fun!
They took their classes, did sports, tutored classmates, volunteered everywhere and worked summer jobs. They made new friends, and weren’t the presidents of clubs. They were constantly out in the community during their summers, which is what you should be doing if you are serious about getting into the UC’s.
I agree with @tsbna44.
If you are so heck-bent set on looking at two points, and can’t seem to get past that, then maybe your issue isn’t the points, but something else. Maybe you should speak with someone about this competitive anxiety. Something is going on and it’s not the points.
Instead of worrying about 2 points, or what UC will accept you, do you know what major you will apply? If you will not apply for STEM major, why would the school care you take Calculus BC or not? First figure out your passion during high school, then worry what school or UC will accept you. My son had interest in Engineering since elementary school and applied for AERO Eng, he got accepted to UCD from waitlist. If UCD did not accept him, he would have go to uDub. If uDub did not accept him, he would have go to tOSU or TAMU… My point is there are so many good colleges in US, first figure out your major then pick the best school accept you. No need to stress out so much now…
