Do you guys think college will excuse me?

Hi. I’ll be senior next year and I’ve been USA since May 2012(I’m a permanent resident student). Apparently English is my second language and korean is my native language. I really wanna go to UNC Chapel Hill, but I got 490CR, 690M, 380 WR on SAT(my superscore is 490,750,380). I know my scores are too low but I got 780 on Mathematics level 2(SAT II) and got 5 on AP Calc 1. I know that I have to get at least 1900 to get into UNC, but it’s really hard for me to bump my scores within 5 months.
I’m good at math but because of my english, my SAT score is really low. Do you guys think college will excuse me for that?
My guidance told me that I have to get a high score on TOEFL, and send a mail to UNC admissions. Well, I took practice test and I got 92 on Toefl, and I’m planning to take it in September.
Also, should I take SAT korean subject test?
Please help me out!

it’s not hard when you’ve 380 on writing. you can increase 300 points on that alone.

I don’t want to sound rude but with 5 months, I would be extremely happy to work my ass off to get that score rather than hoping that a college will consider me despite my horrible scores.

Thanks for your advice. But i dont know how to improve scores. So I decided to buy big blue book(collegeboard) and SAT writing book(kaplan) and finish it. Do you think it’s good idea? @drexter

We don’t have a lots of money by the way, so my parents wont let me go to college without scholarship. My goal is 600,800,600. Do you think its possible to get a scholarship?

for writing, you need to work on rules of grammar ( they are easy to improve) use ultimate SAT grammar guide and Silverturtle’s guide for it.

as for essay, use academic hacker’s guide to write essay:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/645763-how-to-write-a-12-essay-in-just-10-days.html</a>

and as you already have high math scores, I can’t say how to improve on that anymore.

for practice tests, use QAS tests (released tests) and blue book and online course (36 tests are enough to get you concepts, practice and such things.)

Do you live in North Carolina?

@drexter then what about CR? We don’t have a lots of money by the way, so my parents wont let me go to college without scholarship. My goal is 600,800,600. Do you think its possible to get a scholarship?
@suzy100 Maryland :(

It’s very hard to get in being from out of state. On top of that, it’s very very very hard to get merit aid out of state.

UNC is not realistic when you combine your test scores with the fact that you need aid and are OOS. And unfortunately for you many students who have English as a second language have much higher CR/W scores so unless you can boost that significantly the standardized test scores will hurt your application. And I don’t think schools will put a lot of weight in SATII scores in a test of what is considered your primary language.

Some colleges will want you – but UNC is one of the most selective schools for OOS applicants – and like others have said, they aren’t generous with FinAid. It should be completely removed from your target list, frankly.
