Ahhh… sweet memories… when we were fresh out of grad school and dirt poor, that was our way of upscale vacationing. Once we ran out of cash by the end of the road trip to CA and on the way back (we were denied every credit card we applied for!) we were frantically counting change to pay for our KOA spot making sure we had enough left for gas to get back home. Dinner that night was very glamorous… leftover crackers and a chocolate bar. 
A nice BofA cc with a generous $3k credit limit was waiting for us in the mailbox upon arrival. We could’ve had a fancy dinner at Denny’s if it had arrived before our trip!
