I have a very clear memory of watching the first walk on the moon. I was working at a snack bar off the highway, and someone had brought in a TV to watch it happen. Once the walk began, everyone–strangers and friends alike–stood spellbound. Truly a proud and unifying experience.
I also remember listening to the radio when John Glenn orbited the Earth in 1962. I was in art class, and the teacher stopped everything so we could listen together.

I was 14. I watched both the landing and the moon walk live. Strangely, my mother, stepfather, and sister were not interested. I was the only one in the house who was watching.
No personal memory of this as I was too little. Mr. is a bit older and remembers it! But I was always fascinated with space exploration, and we both are huge fans of NASA (Mr. reserves the NASA baseball cap he got at a NASA gift shop in DC to be worn on vacations). We bought the documentary on bluray and will have a party this weekend!
I was not quite 6 months old, so I probably was sleeping…
My biggest memory is the fear that those intrepid men might never make it home. I was terrified that either their rocket would not be able to take off for some reason— for example, the different atmosphere or something would affect combustion or takeoff or whatever— or that they would not make it home for some unplanned reason.
Much less the challenges once they would find their way back to earth!
I was T summer camp during the early part of the mission. We were t supposed to have transistor radios , but someone had smuggled one in. We all clustered around and listened to the lift off and early stages. By Sunday I was back home and strangely don’t remember watching the first steps live.
I was happy that we were able to watch the International Space Station go over the house tonight. That thing moves fast! It was good to see that the space program is continuing.
Mr. and I just finished our little Apollo 11 celebratory party! We watched the documentary we bought on bluray, drank some bubbly, and cheered for the men and women that made the lunar mission a success. BTW, the movie is Oscar-worthy.
