Not photoshop yet.
Perhaps I thought it was way too expensive in 2021 for just using as an occasional hobby?
They may have only had expensive versions other than subscription at that time. Can’t remember, but I paid $38 for my PaintShop which is currently $99, like PhotoShop Elements.
With son grown and parents gone, and not vacationing much anymore, I don’t need much in the way of editing. I do a lot on my iPhone these days! I’ll keep an eye out for sales!
I think judicious cropping and autocorrect can make 90% of photos look better.
I rarely take photos or use social media. I do sometimes use Gimp or similar to modify the pictures in the following ways:
-
Zoom + Crop Select – I prefer to zoom to a particular area of the picture. For example, if my dog is running in the distance, my dog may not be visible in the full picture; but if I zoom in, it highlights what I want to highlight. This is by far my most common photo edit – more common than all the others combined.
-
Tilt – Sometimes I take a picture while holding a camera at angle. Tilt combined with rectangle cropping fixes.
-
Color / Chroma Enhance – Nothing extreme, but I prefer often prefer brighter colors
-
Brightness / Contrast – Again nothing extreme, but I often prefer other defaults
-
Fix Problem – Sometimes lighting or shadows makes portions of the photos not visible. For example, a face might not be a black shadow rather than have visible fixtures. Sometimes the colors look wrong, such as near all white, when colors should be present. Sometimes other things occur. If I want to keep the photo, then I look for ways to fix the problem.
