Do you really save money with your kid at college?

We’ve obviously saved on food, but we’ve also saved on our electric bill. No lights & computers left on, no 25 minute showers, running the dishwasher less frequently, less laundry, etc. I guess our water bill has gone down too.

We’ve saved on lower water bills, lower food bills, private sports lessons and travel for sports tournaments but…rent off campus @ college = $500/month, +spending money, groceries, gas etc. Pretty much a wash I’d say and worth every penny!

The costs are deferred. Now we spend what we would on kids groceries, but it is in their “meal plans”.

My typical grocery bill may be lower at home, but when I calculate the cost of my kids at school it is higher. Much higher. Plus their housing.

Always more expensive to have to pay for more than one household, in my experience.
