I bought an assortment of individual cereal boxes for my grand kids today and then remembered that when I was young, you could open one of those up and pour the milk right in the box. They don’t do that any more. Those were great.
Roger Williams’ commercials touting him sitting on a barstool in spotlight, crooning… we were urged to make the most of the opportunity to grab his supposedly celebrated collection of songs.
A thermos with your tin lunch pail that actually kept your drink very cold or hot. Unless…it sounded like crushed ice. That was never a good day
Or soup in the thermos in the winter.
I remember my thermos leaking as I took the cover (cup) off as it wasn’t closed properly.
Another memory, driving daughter around the neighborhood at night when she was a baby to make her fall asleep. That was the only way we could get her to sleep. Desperate times called for desperate measures.
Anyone remember the TV show- “Love American Style”? I have a feeling that it was more risque than I realized at the time.
The '73 oil crisis - Family rented a Winnebago in summer of '73 and called ahead from Dallas to Colorado reserving gas at different stations - don’t know if Mom actually reserved gas or just found out when they expected delivery but she called it “reserving gas.” I believe it was at the unbelievable high cost of 47 cents a gallon!
I managed a full-service gas station for a year before returning to college. We checked your oil and gave you some if needed. We also checked your transmission fluid, brake fluid, the coolant in your radiator, we put air in the tires, and even troubleshooted engines whenever we could. I could pump gas for four cars at the same time to get them in and out faster.
We washed everyone’s windshield too. Our gasoline was always 2 cents a gallon less than the competitor across the street plus they seldom did all of these services. We were located in a parking lot in a shopping center right next to the Fotomat drive thru.
I just found my lunchbox on ebay! I still think it’s adorable. Prices range up to $159 for one in new condition.
Pez is timeless

Fotomat! Boy do I remember those little booths in shopping center parking lots.
^^^Hilarious!
Nice link thereofthree.
We never wore belts. We had this winter outfit that went from head to toe to keep us warm. On windy winter days I could barely open up the door to go out and pump gas. A few stolen cars pulled in and took off without paying. The passengers grinned at me as I tried to get the license plate number.
Whenever the temperature went above 90 degrees I would leave work high as a kite from the exhaust fumes. It’s a wonder I didn’t die of cancer years ago.
Jiffy pop – we still buy it for camping trips and sing the jingle as we cook it!
I remember the Sinclair dinosaur in southern Illinois when I was four or five. My parents claimed there weren’t dinos at the gas station, but I knew my memories were right!
I can still hear that “crushed ice” sound that your thermos made after you dropped it. Not going to be a happy lunch eating my peanut butter sandwich with any milk. My mother couldn’t understand how I dropped so many thermoses. I guess she didn’t know how much faster you could spin around and around with a full lunch box in your hand.
