My mom and stepdad would send a traditional Christmas card signed with their first and last names. Obviously they sent everyone the same signed cards no personalized messages.
Yes, we do. We send cards from the charities we wish to support and add personal messages by hand. Friends and family largely do the same. Occasionally we receive phone call from one or other explaining that they are donating directly to their charity rather than buy their cards. We had one such call this year from a younger relative who decided that was a better course than paying a largish sum for postage. Knowing something of his finances we could only agree.
We’ve been sending Christmas letters for 35 years. When we started doing it on nicer paper and adding photos, I stopped including a card (though usually there is a hand written note at bottom of the printed letter or tucked into the envelope). Since the digital age, we have a used printed photo assortment on page 2 of the letter. Photography is hubby’s jam, so he is in charge of page2 (and also now the letterhead on page 1). He loves vacation photos, including some of us. This year lots of wedding photos.
We joke that we can’t stop sending our letters because friends and family will worry that we are divorced or dead. But the list does evolve a bit over time. We send about 40 each year and receive about 20 cards (or photos or letters, oh I do love those).
I just got Chinese New Year cards. Now to get my act together and mail them in 3 weeks.
We got a late card last week. This is the first year in many that we didn’t do cards. (a) no time and (b) this wasn’t the best year so not feeling up to writing a letter. But, I have bought cards and stationery for this coming holiday season. Hoping for the best!
I just got my Lunar New Year cards. First day 2/10.
When my Aunt was living I used to send her a Valentines card every year. She never married and her boyfriend of 40 years got paranoid (Alzheimers) and they had to break up.
