do you shop at Aldi's ?

We have a terrific farmers market about 3 blocks’ walk from my home, and several others in the general area. I buy all my produce there in season, prices are good and obviously quality is high.

But Aldi (and my local indy supermarket) cover produce well for me in winter.

@lookingforward some produce is organic, some isn’t. https://www.aldi.us/en/grocery-home/fresh-produce/

@lookingforward

Aldi has organic produce as well as regular. And their selection of organic products seems to be increasing.

Every few weeks lately, Aldi’s has a “$10 off a $40 purchase” coupon in their weekly ad. There is one this week.

Makes shopping there a REALLY good deal!

I finally went to Aldi’s for the first time. It was larger than our Trader Joes but everything was spread out. They also sold some of the products that are available at the local grocery store. I had someone help me figure out how to get the cart and put it back. Ours takes credit cards. As I entered the first thing I saw were chocolates. Since it was my first visit I stayed there and looked at all they had to offer. I bought some Choceur milk chocolate and hazelnut wafers that were on sale. I liked the Fit and Active line of products. I got some individual size packs of almonds and walnuts which were reasonably priced and one of their other snacks. The sale items were definitely a good deal. I purchased some spice jars. The fruit and vegetable section was smaller than Trader Joes but some things were better priced… They had some raspberry and pineapple on sale. There was this lady in front of me blocking access to the raspberries. She must have put at least 15 boxes of them in her cart. They were on sale for $1.39. On sale I get them for $3 at the grocery store. In the center of the store they had non food items - toys, books, garden supplies. I purchased a Lacura facial cleanser and retinol complex and q10 night cream for about $3 each. They had nice cheeses and bulk fruit. (apples, oranges) You could get all your staples here. They had a variety of breads. They had this thin pizza crust package which comes with tomato sauce packets that I am going to try. If Aldi’s was close to my home I would go more often. This is a place that I might go to once a month and stock up.

I saw people really loading up their carts like you would see in Costco. I tried to limit what I purchased but still came out of the store with a lot of things. There was only one register open but she rang up everything very quickly. I stopped before exiting to bag everything.

It is definitely a different experience than Trader Joes. I wish they were next to each other. I think I am able to get in and out of trader joes faster probably because I know where everything is and I have in mind what I am going to purchase from there. A wegman’s is being built across the street from my home so between that, trader joes, farmers markets, and the local grocery stores there are a lot of options. Next time I go to Aldi’s I think I will take some insulated bags with me to get milk, eggs, and cheese. Not bad for a first visit.

All Aldi’s in the US take credit cards. They rolled it out nationwide in March.

silly question -at Aldi’s are you supposed to bag the groceries as you are checking out? or Let the check out person finish and then take them all over to the bagging counter?

At mine, they take things from your cart, ring them up, place them in a second cart. When done, you move to the packing area.

If I only have a few things, I can quickly bag while the checker is ringing out. Otherwise, I take my cart to the bagging shelf and do it there…so I don’t hold up the folks behind me in the check out line.

You do a cart exchange after check out - so you line up the empty cart, and take the cart with your stuff to the counter. If you only have a few items, you put them in your bag from the checked out cart. Some do go in w/o a cart.

Easier to do the cart exchange. At our Aldi’s it is rare not to have no line at check out, so is helpful to get out of the way as quickly as possible.

Thanks -I have only gotten a few items before and wasn’t sure how it worked for a big shop

Take them all to the counter.

Yes our Aldi’s now takes credit. Surprised they didn’t post a sign. Had to rely on CC!
