Saona –

Based on what you’ve written about him, I’d be proud of your son, too. Sounds like you raised him to lead a balanced life, among other things.

Please forgive me if I’m telling you something you already know, but deferral and rejected mean completely different things when it comes to SEAC results.

Rejected means that it’s over - he won’t be going to Princeton.

Deferral merely means that your son will have to wait until the other trainload of applications come in, and be compared with all of the regular decision applicants. Early action is when the recruited athletes get in, and when the shoe-ins – those who admissions knows would get in come regular decision time – are accepted. Deferral means that admissions sees him as a viable candidate, but they want to compare him to all of the others in the application pool, which has countless numbers of viable candidates as well.

I hope he gets in. If not, he’ll go some place else and get a great education, and wind up doing something great.
