Do you view wearing glasses as fashionable?

I do not like when glasses on anybody’s face. I also do not care to convince people one way or another. Whatever they prefer, it is their business. I never thought of glasses as “fashion” statement. Sometime people have no choice though as contacts are absorbing some very irritating chemicals and should not be work=n under certain circumstances. One better wear glasses while doing dissections in Med. School, as one example, but they will find it very quickly.
I do not wear glasses, but I would definitely not able to wear contacts, period. So, my opinion is pretty useless as I lack experience.

What does this mean?

I wear glasses. Like many on this thread, I wore contacts for a while…first hard lenses back in high school, then soft lenses. To be honest, I like my glasses on my face:) I have a couple of pairs. I contemplated eye surgery but with my level of nearsightedness, the guarantee of not needing glasses at all was NOT there. So I passed.

I will say…I just got an AWESOME pair of “Office Glasses”. They are like mid/close point portions of progressive lenses, but no distance. They work wonderfully for work on the computer and reading…mid to close point work…and my eyes do not fatigue when I wear them. I chose a pair of black frames that were on sale…since they were just for computer/reading work. I like them SO much I might just get a new pair of regular glasses in a similar frame.

So why bother to post?

"I do not like when glasses on anybody’s face.

What does this mean?"

-the question was how we like glasses on people faces. My answer was: I do not like them. I also said that my opinion is useless as I do not wear glasses or contacts. However, I still can express my opinion, or I cannot? If not, then you are free to add me to ignore list, you will never see my posts any more.

Actually, the question on the thread was if you think glasses are fashionable, not whether you like them on peoples’ faces.

It would be wonderful if NO ONE had to wear glasses, but for those of us who DO wear them, it’s nice that there are some fashionable options from which to choose. I love the choices in glasses out there now. And truthfully, as a long time glasses wearer, I do NOT mind having them on my face.

I can no longer see well enough out of my contacts to wear them on a regular basis. I would prefer to, but just cant see both near and far at the level I can with my progressive glasses. And, I can hide the dark circles under my eyes behind my glasses. Score!

I have trifocal (sp?), but I don’t see better or worse with them, so I don’t wear them unless I am really tired. But I think they look very fashionable on me, people tell me that I look nice with them. I have some very nice sunglasses too, and I always forget to put them on.

I only wear mine for distance - to drive, and sometimes in front of clients if I’m presenting in a large room / auditorium and want to see the back of it. The rest of the time, I’m totally fine. Why would I want to take a chance on having someone screw up my vision permanently? It’s so not a big deal to put on glasses occasionally. Frankly, when I’ve tried contacts, they were SO much more of a hassle - the cleaning, the storage, what happens if dust gets in your eye. They were a total bother.

My wife had her corneas burned by a bad batch of contact lens cleaning solution. My insurance covers the full cost of contacts but she’s worn glasses since then.

Daily wear contacts are great. You wear them and toss them. The cost for them vs. contacts and solution was not very different. DS uses them

S1 used the daily contacts for awhile. He had a problem with corneal ulcers.
He ended up getting Lasik surgery for his job (no glasses or contacts allowed).

Because my prescription hasn’t changed in a while, I have about 5 years worth of glasses. I have horn-rimmed rhinestones, Lisa Loeb type, silhouettes, black, red, purple and two pairs fo sunglasses. When I was younger I always wore contacts but once i was in my bar-hopping 20s I decided that contacts and bar smoke didn’t mix-nor did the morning after walk of shame. I have been collecting pairs since my 20s which I have updated with my prescription every few years. I look better with glasses and I have learned how to work them to my advantage with haircuts, makeup application, etc. My DS now wears glasses and is following on in a hipster tradition. People still say my eyes are my best feature, so I guess I am using the glasses to my advantage.

I’ve worn contacts for 40 years but just last week was diagnosed with some funky condition requiring me to lay off the contacts for several months at least. It breaks my heart but I have to admit the right glasses do hide the bags under my eyes.

I’ve been wearing a pair of computer progressive glasses for more than five years now. The “distance” portion is enough to see across the room well enough to get around, but not enough for watching TV. In exchange, they are fantastic for mid-range – computer screen, cooking, household/repair projects, and so forth. Say, two to four feet. Just about the ideal “indoor” glasses. These were like regular progressives, but with no distance zone at all. Zeiss Gradal RD.

I just ordered a new pair (Essilor Computer) – slightly different design with a huge intermediate zone, a reading zone, and a little tiny distance zone at the very top of the lens that you can get to by tilting your head way down. We’ll see if those work out as well.

Thanks for sharing interesteddad. My eye doctor said I would love these office glasses and I do!

Contacts for 35+ years. The first years were spent battling hard/gas permeable lenses because of an astigmatism. Then. low and behold…I was able to wear soft disposable lenses. Love them…I’m into mono vision right now and they work great. Having said that, the past week or so there seems to be an allergy agent in the are and the contacts have been uncomfortable. This is a problem since I don’t have prescription sunglasses and i just plain don’t go out without sunglasses.

I bring along DH when I pick out frames. He’s the one that sees my glasses the most, so he might as well like them too.
