This seems to be a freedom few women actually want. It’s legal for women to be topless in nyc. Yet, in a city with 4 million+ women and millions more as tourists, you will see approximately zero women topless, barring the occasional protest gimmick.
This dr should have the book thrown at her and lose her license. Parents need to be prosecuted as well considering they likely knew and opted for this heinous practice.

We all deplore the practice. End of story I guess.
I recall an Egyptian activist describing how when she was taken from her bed and mutilated, she was screaming for help from her mother/grandmother, then realized that they were among the women holding her down. As is often the case, other women are complicit in forcing women to comply with these things and shaming.
What is also disturbing is that this kind of thing will barely make the news, while people will blow up with anger at the thought that non-revenue airline passengers aren’t allowed to wear anything they want while getting a free ticket.
We have our priorities all screwed up. This story is tragic, and I’ll bet this doctor has done this procedure many times. I hope everyone involved doesn’t get away from being punished. This is awful.
So if this doctor didn’t do it, would the parents take the girls to some kind of traditional practitioner?
And how does one go about convincing them that this is a bad thing?

These doctors should get life in prison. This is barbaric and no western democracy should tolerate this.

What I don’t understand is why they parents haven’t been arrested too?
There is no comparison to any culture and a muslim one in their treatment of women it is sickening PERIOD.

FGM is a region, not a religious problem. Muslims, Christians, and others practice it in certain parts of Africa and elsewhere. Why? Because it was there before Abrahamic religions came in.
Second, the media is saturated with how poorly women are treated in “Islam.” What’s really missing is how women are abused in other religions. And yes, they are severely abused and mistreated in other religions. And yes, there ARE comparisons.
From the article, it is unclear whether she actually performed clitoridectomies on the unfortunate girls, or some more minor compromise procedure. I certainly hope it was the latter.
