I once went to a dentist whose waiting room looked like a room in someone’s home. Comfortable chairs, lamps, loveseats, and a game table with checkers. When I complimented him on it he said his wife had done it.

My ideal Dr.'s office would be like some pediatricians, where the well are separated from the contagious. I know that is hard to enforce but it would be nice not to sit near someone spewing flu germs. I don’t ever pick up magazines in my regular Dr.'s office for just that reason.

My gyno only has Conceive and Parents magazines. No interest in either!

I have the waiting room issue figured out. My dentist and doctors are consistent in maintaining their offices on time so there is minimal or no waiting. That did not happen by accident. I change providers when the service is poor. That is not just an issue with convenience, but I don’t trust the doctors who are not organized.

My kids loved going to the radiologist with me when I was receiving radiation for breast cancer. The office had hot water and individual packets of hot chocolate. Never mind it was summer and close to 100 degrees outside; they thought it was cool! As I was only there less than 10 minutes from the time I walked in the door, got undressed, radiation and got dressed again, it was easier to take the kids with me than to get a babysitter for that short time. The staff was happy to have them sit in the waiting room, something I checked on before bringing them with me. Luckily the kids were old enough and well behaved that they didn’t need to be watched, just having an adult that knew they were sitting there was good enough.

My dentist’s office is very nice with clean, comfortable furniture and a large-screen tv with the remote on the coffee table. He has five exam rooms so there are never many people in the waiting area. It’s professional and respectful. I like that.

My D’s orthodontist used to have the greatest waiting room. He had a huge indoor jungle gym, several large tvs with the latest video games and every kind of toy you would imagine. It was creatively decorated and spotless. Great place to go.

I work in a doctor’s office and the clinic manager decided to put a jigsaw puzzle on a table in the waiting room. The patients love it. There are always 2 or 3 people working on it and more watching them. When the final piece is placed we put out a new one. Some of the patients have given us puzzles to use.

Snowball, Isn’t it funny how just the littlest thing can make such a big difference?

I forgot about my dentist (which is terrible because is also a friend!) but I love his waiting room because not only is it nice, I’ve never sat in it for longer than five minutes. Now that’s what I"m really looking for!

Whenever I go to my dentist or MD, I scoop up all the magazines around my house, tear off the address label and donate them to the practice. Whatever I find goes-fishing, decor, boy scouts, teen, whatever I find goes! (unless it has a recipe that I want;)
