Does a given major's college matter?

If you keep your GPA above 3.5 and do well on your MCATs you will most likely get into a med school. Some schools brag that 30 to 40 percent of grads instead of the usual 20 percent get into med school but they sometimes limit who they will write letters of rec for or counts grads up to 10 yrs after graduation, in order to raise their stats.

With the prospect of you or your parents carrying 100k or more of UG debt, I would take the free ride and work, very hard to get the best grades you can. If you are a rising senior or younger consider the BA/MD or BS/MD programs also since some give tremendous merit aid and you can save the stress of the MCAT by skipping it.

If you find Biochem too tough to get all A’s in, switch to regular bio since getting the highest GPA is the goal as long as you include the core courses ( organic, bio, physics etc.). Good luck.
