Does anyone out there watch Dance Moms ?

This season, I thing that Kilani is so beautiful and talented. I think she should just drop the Ultimate and audition for SAB or ABT-they would take her in a heartbeat ! I notice that Jojo has quieted down a lot. She has the confidence of a much older child. Has anybody noticed the constant full make-up on all the girls? Wonder if they always look like this outside the show. Also, I would like to see the dads on a show, and hear what they think! I always pre-record the show, and SKIP the mom fights!

I also think Kilani is beautiful and talented. I was really shocked when she was cut, but not terribly surprised when Abby “saved” her. I think she is probably the best dancer on the show. I am in no way a dance expert, I just know what I like!

I hadn’t really thought about the makeup. At my D’s college (a great dance school) the dance majors were required to wear buns and red lipstick to class, but that may have just been ballet classes.

^^^That seems like a bad and unfair requirement. I understand makeup as part of a performance or dress rehearsal, but how can the school force women to wear make up in everyday life (I would consider class everyday life)? I assume the boys in the class are not required to wear makeup to class (even though they may have to wear some on stage). Sorry, I was just stunned by this. As a woman (and one that does not wear makeup), I think forcing women to wear makeup is pretty wrong.

Makeup in the context of dance isn’t makeup. It’s part of the costume. Having said that, costumes are only worn for performances and dress rehearsals, so I agree that it seems unnecessary to wear it to class.

Argh, too late to edit.

Buns are a slightly different matter, since unlike makeup, they can easily be undone before the girls leave class. D was always required to pull her hair back for all of her dance classes. A pony was fine, as long as it wasn’t flying around in her face. Once she got to the senior level, buns were required in ballet class only, I think to promote the idea that they were real ballerinas now.

I have no issue with dress codes and hairstyle codes (buns). I also completely understand makeup is part of the costume (I have worn makeup myself in a play, although it’s not something I would be remotely interested in outside the performance).

It’s making girls/women wear makeup to class that I have a huge issue with. I think that’s just wrong.

I agree with you.

Whoa. Didn’t mean to strike a chord about the makeup. I may even be wrong about that, but for some reason I remember my D saying something about it. It may have just been the advanced ballet classes.

My son studied at SAB for 8 years and NONE of the girls wore makeup to class. ( SAB- the school for City Ballet-NYCB)

For D1 ballet class–bun yes, black leotard yes, pink tights yes, makeup no. For a performance, makeup yes, sewn point shoes yes, makeup yes, restricted jewelry yes.

These were the rules.

I was a week behind in Ultimate but I caught up tonight. I don’t know what to think about JoJo’s “confidence.” At first she was cute (I’m a princess, duh) but then she got a little cocky. I can’t believe that mother is bleaching that kid’s hair and has been since she was two. I missed the first week or so: Is JoJo a pageant girl?

My guess is that Jojo started in pageants and moved on. I think her dancing is nothing compaired to Asia last season. Does anybody know what Asia is doing? Jojo is the most annoying child, but Lisa is the worst mom. I feel sorry for her child.
