I would generalize the same way. And Worcester and Clark’s location are not very safe.

i did receive a small scholarship however my parents are paying a lot of money for me to be here.
in all honesty i think that they have wasted an incredible amount of money as i would have gotten the same-better education. but thats just my experience.

I don’t think Clark’s in an unsafe area but it’s not really anywhere and the campus itself is kind of small. It’s an interesting school, one that really tries to carve its own path. They always discount off the face cost.

I know a lot of families paying full freight for Clark, Bu and Worchester, among many other schools.

jenuwin1 - I would disagree with UCR being a less reputable school. It may not be as “hot” a school as some, but its part of the UC system, and you can’t go wrong with an education from a UC school.

And to all of the parents and kids who are feeling bad about not being able to go to BU because it is so frighteningly expensive, let me say this - had we known what was going to happen to the economy in the past year and especially to the stock market, we would have strongly encouraged our D to consider an in-state school, or even one of her other choices that would have been 20-25,000 less. However, now that she is so happily enmeshed in the BU community and feels so glad to be there, we would never ask her to switch unless it was a desperate situation. I am glad that because we are able to pay full tuition, there is a kid out there who is able to take advantage of financial aid packages that we do not need. I do believe that being at a private school is a real plus, HOWEVER I also believe that a quality education and wonderful experience can be had just about anywhere if the student is motivated and likes their environment.

I was paying full tuition at BU, and even though my family had absolutely no issues affording $50,000 a year, I decided after cost benefit analysis that the education was not worth $200,000.

My daughter appealed her merit aid decision and received a Dean’s Scholarship this week (10k/year). She was already leaning towards BU, but that pushed her completely over the edge and she accepted her admission offer at BU. She wants to study biochemistry and participate in music on campus. I’m not sure what convinced BU to award her, but in my daughter’s appeal letter she stressed her 3Q grades (all A’s in 5 AP classes), lead in spring school musical, and continuing some great student leadership opportunities in music. While we could have squeezed out the tuition, and we feel that BU is a great school for her, in this economy the merit aid gives that extra relief and is hugely appreciated. My daughter had other merit aid at state school honors programs, but in the end, the lure of music in Boston and BU itself as very strong. Woo hoo … college decision over. The only thing hanging in the wind is a waitlist decision at Columbia; now that she has this merit aid from BU, I’m not sure that the Columbia waitlist possibility is as strong, but I believe the chances of that are low anyway.
