Does Close Cut It?

Well, I took the May SAT, and I feel like I probably got 1200s range but not quite a 1300 for auto admission. In this case, does a close score (say 1240-1280) have any bearing on admission compared to like someone in the 1100s? BTW, this was my first time taking it.

I have like a 3.92 weighted gpa, decent ECs, ranked in about the top 19%.

uh… I’ve seen earlier in this forum that that someone who had a 1290 or 1280 ended up on the waitlist, that and that rank isn’t looking too good either, so you might want to boost that up a bit.

I hate to say it but, you might want to study more and get it over 1300.

I agree. Get it up over 1300. Have you heard of Testmasters? It’s an SAT prep course. You can find it with google. It’s expensive…about $700…but don’t automatically dismiss it because of that. Yes, there are lots of test prep courses out there; your school probably even offers one. But, I guarantee you they aren’t as effective as Testmasters. Both of my sons took it and went from scores in the 1100+ range up to 1340 for one and 1420 for the other.

We home schooled our kids and were part of a home school group where lots of the graduates go on to A&M. Most of them take Testmasters to get their scores up so they can be automatically admitted. (Since home schooled students don’t have a class rank, they can’t be automatically admitted as top 10%, and their transcripts tend to be pretty non-traditional. It’s just much simpler if they can get an academic admittance due to a high SAT score.)

Both sons also got scholarships which were no doubt helped by their high SAT scores. It was a good investment all the way around for us.

Heh you guys are right. I should get that 1300+ for auto admit and for scholarship competition.
