Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

I watched 1-1/2 episodes of Meghan’s show. To me, it wasn’t quite a cooking show…it wasn’t quite a DIY show…it wasn’t quite a “talk show”/get to know my guests.

I don’t think any celebrity shows cook in their actual kitchen, do they? On the outside, Meghan’s looked a lot like Joanna Gaines’ farm house.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but Martha was a lifestyle person/worked /lived at this who expanded to a show, etc. Is Meghan?

I don’t really follow her, but to me it was like, “what am I going to do next? I’ll do a lifestyle show” vs “people are interested in how I live/do all this entertaining/make all these thing so I will start a show to teach them how”.

On the flip side, my co-worker’s 25 yo daughter loves the show.

Famously, Julia Child did.

Meghan didn’t. They rented a farmhouse in Montecito for filming. Why, you ask? This is where she should have just shut up; she said she didn’t use her own home for privacy reasons.

I wouldn’t want a whole film crew traipsing around in my house either. Really, why would anyone be comfortable with having a lot of strangers in their home for lengthy periods?

As for the security costs, if you’ve read Spare, you’d know that Harry had bodyguards since he was a small child in boarding school. They were a constant presence throughout his life until suddenly his family decided they didn’t care if he was kidnapped or murdered. I can understand why someone, who knew and believed from a young age that he needed constant protection, would continue to use it.

Is that what he said in his book?

I can’t imagine any family member who would think that. No matter how uncaring.

That statement really feels like different parties have a different way of remembering things.

I’m being hyperbolic I guess. I meant his security was cut off when he became a non working royal family member. But it’s basically the same thing. Why shouldn’t he still be protected by his family no matter what he does with his life?

I think if you were British you could look at it like, well they aren’t working Royals, why should my tax dollars pay for their security in the US?

Harry’s net worth is estimated at 60 million dollars, I think he can manage his own security without taking it from UK tax payers.

Just my opinion – As non-working royals, it seems reasonable for them to get British security while in the UK. However, they have chosen to live full time in the US and it does not seem reasonable to have UK funded security subsidize their lifestyle in CA.

His family has personal billions of dollars don’t they? It’s the personal rejection that gets me. If I was a billionaire, I’d keep my kids safe if they needed it.

But honestly, I have no idea of their financial resources. But yes, if that net worth is true, I shouldn’t be concerned about it. I just recall that his inheritance from Diana wasn’t that substantial relatively speaking. And the constant attempts by them to generate income made me think they needed it.

More like 600-700 million. Though certainly not chump change. Most of the assets are held in trust by the monarch on behalf of the nation.

Regardless, Charles has no reason to subsidize his 40-year-old son. Or his 65 yo pedo brother, but that’s another topic

Harry and Meghan have the mean to fund their own security in the US

And on another note:

If his net worth is 60 million, they should be able to live off that. It’s sort of insulting to regular people if they don’t think that’s enough.

I’m not sure what security would be violated by showing frenzied snippets of Meghan’s actual kitchen. I only watched 3 episodes but don’t recall seeing a wide shot of the entire rented kitchen. I think she wanted a specific setting with the accompanying gardens and her real kitchen didn’t fit the bill. They seem to use security and privacy concerns as an excuse for a lot of things.

If they lived in one of the royal residences in the UK, there’d be security everywhere, sort of included with their rent. They’ve made a choice not to take advantage of that.

I can understand M wanting to work, to stay in acting or become an Oprah or Martha, but I don’t think she’ll be able to create an empire like they did with TV and magazines and podcasts. They got to grow their empires quietly and make mistakes and fine tune the product. Meghan is criticized for everything, jumps ship, and has to start over with every project.

I believe that they took out a $9mm mortgage from JP Morgan to buy the Montecito home.

Taking a mortgage for that home was their choice – they could have settled in a less pricey area of the country or purchased a home with fewer bedrooms/bathrooms.

Harry wants full time security in England. Other than the King and Queen, only the Prince of Wales and his family have full time security. Princess Anne and Prince Edward and Sophie receive security only when they are working. Otherwise, they don’t. If you remember, Princess Anne had a kidnapping attempt on her when she was a young adult. She still doesn’t get it full time.

If Prince Harry broke immigration rules, he should self deport.

There’s an app for that!

(Sorry couldn’t help it, the Kristi Noem ad is on repeat where I live!)

H & M chose the crème de la crème of west coast real estate. Meghan was not born yesterday. If she grew up in LA she knows darn well that Montecito is as “old money” as it gets in the land of new money.

It really is beautiful there, admittedly. If I had unlimited funds and a white linen wardrobe and was a Nancy Myers character I might also choose to plant myself there.

Looks like the release of Harry’s visa information turned out to be a non-issue:

I think non-event is more the case than non-issue; the fact that they were heavily redacted (and I agree that they should have been if they needed to be released to the public at all) means people will not be satisfied

A new headache for Harry re his charity Sentebale. He resigned last week along with the trustees amidst bullying and harassment allegations from the chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka, who has been trying to make changes to the way the organisation is run after funding/donation issues. She believes that Harry and his ‘brand’ is detrimental to the charity and has also reported the trustees to the UK charity commission.
