Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

Yes, what an odd profession!

Why do you think it’s odd? Helping someone else share their story?

I like the way he described ghostwriting to his daughter.

I am endlessly fascinated by the meat and potatoes of writing. How you get to that?

That article shows why people who actually read Spare, are moved by it. By the way the ghostwriter gets his subject. And writes beautifully about it.

Not getting credit for your work in a lot of cases. Having to thread the needle of writing a good book with the tastes/demands of your client.

I’m surprised that nobody mentioned the fact that when the fact he was working with Harry on the book leaked, he, his wife and child were all stalked by paps. It makes Harry’s claims re how awful they made his life even more believable.

I thought the same thing. Also, spending all that time writing only to have the client scrap it.

I thought about who the most challenging celebrity might be to ghostwrite for and decided it would be Britney Spears, in her current state.

The jury is still out with me on how I feel about H&M in general, but I do think Harry handled the coronation attendance graciously. He dressed impeccably, didn’t look grumpy about where he was seated or not being involved in the ceremony/pictures and then went back home. I don’t know what more people expected of him, really.

I do wonder if he spoke to his father or brother at all while he was there.

Aren’t Beatrice and Eugenie working royals? Also, did anyone see Katy Perry and Lionel Richie speak with Charles and Camilla for an advertisement? I think American Idol. Katy Perry did a curtesy. What the heck!? We fought a war so we wouldn’t have to do ridiculous things like that.

Hopefully it’s because he is happier overall and so putting up with the pomp and circumstance and all was just a temporary thing - not a daily thing - so he put on a happy face, completed the trip and event and headed merrily home.

No.

That whole exchange was odd.

This is all kinds of awkward!!! Scroll down for the video.

Also, we can’t include Harry in the royal seating or photos but we CAN tape a bit for American Idol?!

I find the explanations for Harry’s seating and various snubs to be in the nature of a fig leaf. “He’s not a working royal”, etc.

If the king himself on his own d*mn coronation day can’t say “Stuff it! My son is sitting there and joining me on the balcony over there” then he’s a pretty weak and pathetic king. Either Charles didn’t care enough to bring Harry closer or he chose not to. Some dude with a protocol book is not dictating what the king can or cannot do with his own family in regards to ceremony.

And since I’m ranting a bit… I would’ve been willing to bet money that going against protocol to seat Harry up front and have him on the balcony would’ve really endeared Charles to the public that doesn’t like him. Seriously a missed opportunity both to mend fences and get some great PR at the same time.

If the events portrayed in The Queen are accurate, Elizabeth wanted to do NOTHING in the aftermath of Diana’s death, as the divorce rendered her a non-royal. She was able to be convinced to ignore protocol and give her a state funeral, etc. Charles could have similarly told protocol to take a hike and have Harry more involved. To be fair, Harry probably was totally OK with being on the periphery.

…a weak and pathetic king…really!!! If Harry had been on the balcony, everybody would have turned the tv off and the crowd would have booed.

I doubt that - but so what? Priorities. On his deathbed I wonder what will be more important - public opinion or his relationship with his son.

It really struck me in Spare how Harry was so consistent about noting how his father through both childhood and young adulthood always called Harry “Darling boy”. So so many references of this. Was it a term of endearment or a snub of some sort as Harry grew but KC still used it with him?

(side note: all the references to Charles as “KC” or “KCIII” …all I can think of when I see it is “KC and The Sunshine Band”!!! :joy:)

Not just public opinion, but if you asked the King, he’d probably put long term survival and health of the monarchy above either his own popularity or his relationship with his younger son. As I expect QEII would have done. Recall her 21st birthday speech in 1947 https://www.royal.uk/21st-birthday-speech-21-april-1947

I’m not surprised Charles looked stressed at the Coronation - it’s quite a burden being part of something that dates back to 1066.

If Brits would be upset that a father is having a reconciliation with an estranged son, that’s really, really sad for them.
