Harry makes way more money from the feud than he would from a reconciliation. Who would buy the book if they all got along?
I think you underestimate how much the British public hate people taking advantage of their position to grant favors or make money. The press conducts frequent stings and exposes of those sorts of actions, and it’s still a major issue even if people didn’t benefit personally (eg Charles taking money from the Saudis). There’s an undercover reporter known as the “Fake Sheikh” who has done dozens of these on famous people, including the Duchess of York:
I’m sure he took William’s feelings into account and they were more persuasive
Maureen Down on Spare. Pretty much how I feel.

This Maureen Dowd?
Meh. Not my cup of tea.
The disconnect for me is that H has said (in an interview) how he didn’t want to what happened to his mother (the paparazzi/danger) to happen to his family. But then he and M remained quite public.
(But I agree that the paparazzi stalking them, or anyone, is terrible.)
Agree.
In general, reading and hearing about who sits where and who wears what, etc. I wondered how much (not just Harry, but in general) is based on being family and how much is royal protocol.
Working royals sit here, non-working royals can’t wear X, etc.
Their family certainly isn’t as simple as mine! ![]()
Yes but the fact tha he wants the papparazi to stop stalking them, and printing 3rd hand rumors, is a much different thing than saying he wants to live a private life. IMO, there is nothing wrong with saying “I expect journalists to have some decorum when they are phograghing us and, except for the times we will give our consent, the children are off limits.”
One does not get to set the media rules as a public figure, as most celebrities realize.
His expectations are not relevant. The media will abide by the bare minimum legal requirements, and not always that.
Of course. And he, likewise, has a right to move his family to a country where there would be less of a papparazi problem. From what I can tell, they were correct in their assessment that there are different norms in the US and the papparazi here behave better and are significantly less threatening.
I think the point is that the British tabloids are doing things that are illegal - Meghan did win her case against the paper that published the letter she wrote to her father. Also, remember the case a number of years back where they were sued for hacking into people’s phones (some politicians and actors like Jude Law and Sienna Miller, etc had their phones hacked) and there was a trial which the paper lost?
And from the trial currently underway, the publisher of The Daily Mirror admitted in court filings that unlawful information gathering techniques were used to find out confidential information about Harry and two of the other claimants. They also claim some of the stories in question weren’t a result of unlawful activity, but were fed to them by members of the royal family and palace officials.
Way back when the thread was started, I questioned the vitriol directed at Harry and Meghan. I was more interested in the perception of them and the role of the media/tabloids rather than the celebrity/royalty aspect.
I was curious about the relationship between the people in power and certain media outlets. I actually thought more attention would’ve been drawn to Jason Knauf (and his relationship with William) and Ben Elliot (Camilla’s nephew). But as time passed and it didn’t materialize, I figured it must not be a big deal.
Now, however, as Harry’s lawsuits play out, perhaps the public will learn more about what did or did not transpire between certain media outlets and the RF. It certainly interests me more than flower girl dresses and the like.
Lastly, I’ll share a link to an article from Sept 2022. It was just one more revelation that makes me pause and wonder, what’s going on (in a broader sense) between people with wealth and power and the tabloid media.
This is exactly what Harry accused certain members of the family. I guess he was right all along.
I didn’t watch the coronation. It just seems so out of touch with modern times. Today I saw an official photo of King Charles, Prince William, and little Prince George. Their garb just looked ridiculous, like people engaging in cosplay.
Maybe I’m just grumpy. Will try a glass of Chardonnay and see if that improves my attitude.
A perfect description of their garb.
Here’s the photo for those who haven’t seen.
My immediate reaction was I hope George (and Louis) inherited the Middleton hair. ![]()
Not really any more “ridiculous” to me than multiple generations wearing matching outfits or the matching pajamas at Christmas! It is not my cup of tea but every family does things differently and has their own traditions. And the 3 of them as king and future kings doesn’t get much more traditional for a family portrait!
My kids would have refused to wear the matching pjs even at peril of losing out on all of their Christmas gifts, lol. Scrooges, I say, the whole lot of us. ![]()
Just a tad more ridiculous than US university professors donning their robes and fancy hats for graduation ceremonies.
