Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

My opinion is that Bill Simmons and Piers Morgan have a lot in common. Never at a loss for an opinion. Or bad mouthing the Sussex’s publicly

Kind of like the Sussex’s bad mouthing their families publicly?

Isn’t he the same “media genius” who paid Joe Rogan $200 million to spew his misinformation and misogyny all over the platform?

No admiration or respect for this guy.

I have also heard that many of the “awards” given come after a lot of promotion.

Also, many awards can be “purchased” by the PR companies to promote their clients and generate interest.

I don’t interpret Simmons’ comments about Harry as anti-silver-spoonish. He said Harry has no talent other than playing the victim, so he showed H&M the door. Simmons is doing the same thing to Jamele Hill, for the same reason. Rogan has endless talent and a huge audience, so he stays.

This is a pretty devastating takedown with sources inside Netflix, Spotify and Archewell:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/prince-harry-meghan-markle-spotify-netflix-deals-hollywood-dbf1b6ed

A few excerpts:

“Prince Harry and Meghan’s Hollywood foray is looking like a flop. They arrived in Southern California three years ago with Duke and Duchess titles and plans to capitalize on a cash-rich streaming business desperate for star power to lure subscribers. The big-ticket deals that followed—$100 million at Netflix, more than $20 million at Spotify—have led to more cancellations and rejections than produced shows.

The graveyard of video projects they hoped to make includes an animated children’s show called “Pearl” that was canceled by Netflix, as well as at least two TV ideas that the streaming service rejected within the past year, people familiar with Harry and Meghan’s projects said. Netflix is unlikely to renew the couple’s deal, which runs through 2025, the people said.

People who have worked with the pair say their Sussex-upon-Sunset outpost was undermined by their inexperience as producers and trouble finding material consistent with their brand, as well as problems beyond their control, including a retrenchment in the entertainment and podcasting businesses.

Today, streaming boom times have given way to an era of slower growth and unpredictability. Both Netflix and Spotify have cut shows and movies to trim costs. Both have been underwhelmed by the lack of productivity by the Sussexes, people familiar with their perspectives say.

Archewell employees and associates say the company often lacks direction, and that its founders at times seem surprised by the work required to finish entertainment projects. Most potential initiatives, they said, follow a similar route: Big idea, subpar execution.“

Hopefully, the duke and duchess invested the money received and will be able to live off of the proceeds. It does not surprise me that their entrepreneurial endeavors are not working out so well. Neither one had experience with the day to day management of any real working business from what I can see. Meghan was an actress on a cable show and Harry was a prince with a military background… Also, it was probably cost prohibitive to hire the kind of management team necessary to do things correctly. I am sure they (Harry) probably thought that his royal title would get the kind of deference he received in the UK.

Unlikely. Their lifestyle aspirations (and cost of supporting team including security) probably require an eight digit annual income, especially given California taxes. It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens if they have a major cash shortfall after these deals expire. I doubt either their relatives or the general public in the UK will have much sympathy.

It’s unfortunate for them that they squandered these opportunities for future income. It seems like pretty much every A through D-list celebrity/professional athlete/politician/news personality/etc., has a podcast these days, so it can’t be too complicated to pull off. Some are literally sitting on their couches, in their pajamas, holding microphones on a long cord. No lack of subjects to talk about, no need for hair & make up.

Netflix was smart to capitalize on the drama early with the docuseries. I’m guessing they knew M&H wouldn’t end up producing any worthwhile content, so they got their revenue on the front end. Entering into a contract with M&H, ensured that they would get the docuseries.

They were in over their heads for sure, and while they attempted to assemble a “team” that could do the grunt work for them, it appears that one by one, they alienated members of their team, or maybe the team lost confidence that M&H could live up to expectations and they bailed. Now it’s just M&H with a very expensive lifestyle and limited income, and as predicted, America has moved on.

I think it would be very difficult to try and balance what the public wants. Personal stories and antidotes. With a mission to promote your service ideas.

I think the royals have a tightrope to balance. Being a public figure with a public mission. Without scarifying your privacy. Or having opinions.

I think Harry and Meghan thought they could have both. A mission for their pet projects, trying to appear royal. And keeping their private life private. While making enough money to live on.

I think they thought that the corporate world would pay big bucks to hear them speak. I’m not sure they do.

I just don’t think that the public or corporate world wants to know about how the duchess wants to support women empowerment.

And not having to work hard

I still can’t help but think that the entire royal family blew a fantastic oppty to have William/Kate, and Harry/Meghan as their modern, cool, future.

I really do not know how Meghan supports “women empowerment.” Neither she nor Harry have shared specific things they are doing/supporting for any of their charity causes? Besides an elephant documentary that I think Meghan narrated? Otherwise the only commentary from the two of them is negativity about the royal family or court cases. Maybe I missed something?

I thought that was what her entire podcast was about. Empowering women

A quick google search shows many articles

And here. An award for her work in female empowerment

Her current fame and fortune were acquired the old-fashioned way, by marrying well. There are better examples of female empowerment.

Except for her years as a working actress.

I wouldnt say she acquired global fame or fortune from that. She was well-paid for her work and known by some as a minor actress, but certainly not well known nationally nor did she acquire generational wealth

I believe it was Harry and Meghan who blew it.
