Remember that they have a $9,000,000 mortgage. With taxes and insurance, the payment is probably over $50,000 a month. Then they have to pay for the upkeep. King Charles is surely not sending them any money. Don’t forget about income taxes. He may not be a US citizen, but she is. Any money that they earn will be taxed in one of the highest taxing states in the country.
I wonder if they are allowed to accept clothing as a gift now that they are not working royals. They were forbidden to when they were working. I think those are taxable, too. They certainly need a large amount of money to keep them maintaining the lifestyle that they previously had.
My daughter watched Suits; it was one of her go-to TV shows back in the day. However, she drew a total blank when I mentioned the name Meghan Markle when she started dating Prince Harry. For my daughter and friends who watched it, the show got a solid thumbs up but I had to pull up Markle’s picture for that name to connect to that particular character on the show. I’d have to go with @roycroftmom on this - and add even by those who watched the show.
I have three young adults of the age/demographic that Markle and Harry need to be interested in their projects.
Oldest one watched the doc and read the book but didn’t watch the doc produced by M&H that aired immediately after the one re leaving the royal family. Neither she nor friends listened to the podcast or watched the Invictus games docs.
My son and wife have no interest in them whatsoever.
Youngest daughter (the Suits fan) has no interest in them whatsoever.
By no interest, I don’t mean a thumbs down in any way. Let’s just say a thread discussing Meghan and Harry wouldn’t garner their interest enough to bother with it. (I am obviously the anomaly in the family, though I didn’t bother with the doc.)
She rented her Toronto home. She probably could have made enough to purchase a home, but she wasn’t making super star high dollar mega bucks as you said.
A celebrity has to have considerable talent and be prepared to work hard for their money. Marrying well is not a demonstration of talent, and the people who’ve worked both with and for them say outright that they are lazy and unproductive.
And if you consider that to be fame and fortune, that is fine. Many of us do not, but agree that she surely has acquired fame and fortune now by her marriage, which is what she is known for.
That’s cumulative wealth. She was reportedly being paid $50K per episode towards the end and there were 16 episodes per series. She did a few other things but it’s unlikely her annual income exceeded about $1M gross per year.
As I understand it, any inheritance from the deceased King or Queen is passed to the future King or Queen. This is done to avoid tax issues. Harry will most likely not be receiving millions from Charles.
Not necessarily. Due to changes in inheritance laws, only sovereign to sovereign grants are exempt from death duties. Any bequests to those other than William are likely to be (relatively) nominal.
Not that we’ll ever know, as the will likely won’t be made public until 90 years after the death of Charles
Harry supposedly does have an inheritance from the Queen Mother. I seem to remember (I could be wrong) that Princess Anne is in charge of the trust where that money was placed and Harry will not have access to it until he is in his 40’s.
There is mixed info online. No one knows for sure. I have just read that if he did indeed receive an inheritance, he does not have access to it yet. I like to think that Princess Anne has it locked down for several more years in hope that Harry will use it wisely. LOL.
The Queen Mother’s will has been sealed for 90 years. Apart from what Buckingham Palace published, everything else, including the £14 million to be split between William and Harry, is speculation.
There must be multimillion inheritance (money and assets) from each dying member but unlikely for it to become public knowledge to have common disgruntled citizens question royal family’s wealth.
