I had heard also about it many years ago but agree that it probably wasn’t extreme s it was portrayed. Carole Middleton’s PR people (or maybe it’s W&K’s PR team) has been doing its part over the past few days to put out articles portraying Carole as a successful businesswoman (which she is, with her party business) and that Kate came into the marriage with her own family wealth and didn’t need to gold-dig for William’s.
In defense of Carole, if I thought my daughter might have a shot AND she was interested, I’d probably encourage her to do the same thing. Why not? He was good looking, seemed, seemed nice, she’d be Queen.
It seems things have changed.
Well, at an earlier point in time and during the early stages of W&K’s courtship, it was doing well - well enough for Kate’s father to leave his career to join her business.
I also thought Harry came off poorly and only showed one side of him (his angry, cursing, complaining side). Not his charming/playful/cutesy side. The actor’s look had a hardness/geeky/sharp look (struggling to find the right word) that didn’t feel right to me. And the first time he was shown drinking, I could not figure out if he was still supposed to be 13.
I can’t help but wonder if the Crown portrayed him this way to stay on the royals’ good side??
A few years ago, a Brit friend said Kate had really pursued William. So the Carole scheming storyline was new to me.
I thought exactly the same thing! I also thought the actress who played the younger Margaret looked a bit like Vanessa Kirby.
There was definitely nothing posh in his appearance.
I thought the same thing, too! Uncanny, really.
Really? I’d never want my daughter to be a part of that miserable clan. I think Kate’s sister Pippa won the marriage sweepstakes in that family and her wedding looked much nicer, based on the pictures.
Peter Morgan seems to be desperate for an OBE based on his portrayal of the family in the final season.
He was appointed CBE which is a higher class than OBE, several years ago.
Really? I had no idea that he already had one. I based that comment on this headline:
Either OBE nor CBE entitles the holder to be called sir. And I doubt a knighthood was ever in the cards
I finally finished The Crown yesterday. I slogged through the first half when they came out and watched eps 6-8 last week, but fell asleep during eps 9. I thought most of this last season was pretty boring, but did like the last episode.
From this article:
“Using aliases on their show, the pair said “the white race was likely to be ‘genocided’ unless steps were taken to fight back.””
““The evidence demonstrates that you desire to live in a world dominated by white people purely for white people. Your distorted thinking is that the white race has ceded too much influence to Blacks and Asians, to Jews and Muslims, to gays, to white liberals and to white people in mixed-race relationships,” Judge Peter Lodder said.
While Patten-Walsh and Gibbons were entitled to hold their beliefs — regardless of being “as preposterous as they are offensive to a civilized society” — Lodder said they had gone too far.”
The podcasters were found guilty of encouraging terrorism, targeting Harry and his son, Archie.
I remember John Travolta dancing with Diana at The White House. Congratulations to Harry!
What a crock. What did that man do to deserve a “Living Legend of Aviation” award. I read the article. It was fine, but nothing exceptional. My DH was a helicopter pilot in the Navy. He landed on small ships – destroyers and frigates. He also did mountain rescues in his early duty stations. Most all of my husband’s contemporaries could be called the same. I wonder how much he paid for that honor.
Comparative to the other three being inducted, I think his achievements stand out.
From the organization :
The “Living Legends of Aviation” are remarkable people of extraordinary accomplishment in aviation including: entrepreneurs, innovators, industry leaders, astronauts, record breakers, pilots who have become celebrities and celebrities who have become pilots.
He fits the parameters. Think of it as the People’s Choice Awards of aviation. ![]()
Think also that giving awards to “famous” people sells tickets to the event.
