To widen access, Santa Cruz lowered its required GPA for transfer students from 2.6 to the UC minimum of 2.4 after data showed it would not hurt student success, said Onuttom Narayan, a physics professor who helped review the change for the Academic Senate. The faculty also is evaluating requirements for individual majors, he said, to make sure there are no unnecessary entry barriers.

“Right now, we’re basically taking all applicants who meet requirements,” Blumenthal said.
