it looks just as bad to drop all your hard classes, and I know that at a school like my own, that is severely frowned upon, and may not even be allowed depending on the dean.

^I know a dude who was admited ED to Jerome Fisher. He was forced to withdraw all other apps when he found out in December. He was also admitted EA to MIT and Chicago but declined those acceptances as well. Because he’s top 4% in our class, he was auto accepted into the UC system so he had to decline that opportunity as well. All his cookies are now with Penn. I just can’t imagine Penn would pull the rug out from under him now that he’s given up all other opportunities at other schools just because he gets a couple of B’s or even a C second semester. If they did that, he essentially couldn’t go to college next year even though he’s like a super stud academic dude (NM finalist, etc.). That just seems too cruel to be real to me.

Unfortunately, it happens. If someone is actually dumb enough to slack off enough to get something like that taken away from him… yeah, it’s more than cruel enough.

I think people are overreacting. As Adcoms say, GPA is only a fraction of your admission. A .2 or .3 UW drop second semester shouldn’t be a problem.

PABank is right, SusieBra is not. I can ALMOST guarantee one C won
t get you rescinded. I got INTO Penn regular decision and had already gotten a C in AP Calc first term and a C- in AP Calc second term. Most people take one class in high school that just is not for them and, unfortunately, calc is not for me. DO NOT DROP CLASSES THOUGH. hahaha looks SO bad. they
d rather see a C.

@taarrryh: did you have A’s in the rest of your classes or did you have a few B’s in addition to the C-?

Well I think there is a difference between struggling in a class, and doing really poorly because you slacked off. Your counselor can probably differentiates between these two scenarios for your final report.

Longstreet:
I had A
s. But if i got accepted with a C-, i don
t think a couple C
s will make much difference. I know a student much like myself who got into Brown and got B
s and C
s third and fourth terms. I have looked into this a lot because i was freaking out about it myself as my grades have dropped a little (i haven
t slacked off, the material is harddd !) and schools rarely rescind. Basically, if they question my grade(s) i`m going to have my AP Calc teacher write a letter stating that i stay after EVERY DAY. AP Calc is just terrible.

So, one or two c
s probably won
t be a problem.

AND on the “Ask the Dean” part of this site, it saidd:

“Colleges will insist on a final transcript from your high school, but they do not like to rescind offers of admission. Most do so only in extreme circumstances. If, for instance, you are ordinarily an “A” or “B” student and you get a “C” in one class in your last semester, that won’t cause any problem at all. Even a “D” (or perhaps an “F”) in a tough course like AP Calc probably won’t hurt you.”
