Does religion effect admissions? (ND, BC, etc)

Do Catholic or Christian schools prefer applicants who are of that religion or do they not care. Because Notre Dame didn’t send me a single email, even though I had them on my common app for 2 months, but my Catholic friends who aren’t on the same level as Notre Dame has gotten almost 25 emails from them, and he didn’t indicate any interest.

So does being a different Religion hurt my chances at Notre Dame and other Schools (BC, Jesuit schools)?

For ND, religious affiliation is “considered” in admissions. I’m not sure about BC or other religious schools.

That said, my non-religious D does get emails from ND. She visited, so they have her email address.

I am unaware of Catholic schools not sending admissions materials to an applicant who was not Catholic. Like any school ND has admitted and graduated students who were not Catholic. Checking the names of

Can colleges see that they’ve been listed on a Common App before the app has been submitted?

If you want email from ND, why not just give them your email address: http://admissions.nd.edu/connect/contact-us/

@evergreen5 I got emails from almost every school that said something like thank you for starting your application at __________

For what it’s worth, I have a vague recollection that some Catholic high schools provide student email addresses for their Catholic students only to various Catholic universities. I don’t know where I read that, though. That might explain your friend receiving emails while you did not, especially since it sounds like your friend’s emails were not due to listing ND on the Common App.

BC does not discriminate on the basis of religion http://www.bc.edu/offices/diversity/compliance/nondiscrim.html
and “welcomes all faith traditions and encourages students to explore their spirituality and engage in discussions of faith-based issues.” http://www.bc.edu/bc-web/jesuit-catholic.html#par-bc_tabbed_content-tab-1

I suggest you hunt around ND’s website for similar information.
