@NCalRent No point was missed. The answer had already been given to the OP so re-stating the facts seemed a bit redundant. SDSU does not accept students during the spring semester and TAG is not an option, unfortunately. My response was to the second commenter of the thread asking the OP why he/she wishes to go to SDSU as though SDSU is not a good choice. It is a great and highly desired school. Not every person desires to attend a UC or an Ivy League.
Now if I were in the OP’s position and SDSU was my top choice, here is my bit of advice:
I’d do exactly what the OP stated in his/her original post by transferring to a local CC. I’d then recommend earning an AA/AS-T in one of the several programs offered locally that transfer over to SDSU and use this time to begin working on improving the GPA. Most AA/AS-T programs are highly impacted and some require a GPA of about a 3.5 or better to be considered since the applicant pools are usually so large year to year. List of AA/AS-T programs are here: http://arweb.sdsu.edu/es/admissions/transfers/associate-transfer.html
Unfortunately, Biology is not one of them but once admitted to SDSU, it is still possible to change majors even though they say it cannot be done. Even if the OP earns an AA/AS-T in a different area of study, it may still be possible to switch back to the biology major assuming the school of biology signs off of the change.
Since TAG is out of the question considering one would need to take 100% of their units at a local school in order to be eligible as @mikemac stated in his comment, the AA/AS-T route is the best option. If the AA/AS-T can be completed in time locally, I’d then reapply in the fall. The OP will have a much better chance at getting accepted if an AA/AS-T is earned locally and with an improved GPA.
