Does Stanford have Tufts' syndrome?

Really, do you expect us to believe this?

if you got in, you had to have some general idea of Stanford’s reputation…

CC is balanced between personal first-hand accounts, info directly from emails/websites/mailings, and second-hand accounts, as well as random useless crap. The important thing is knowing what to trust and what not to, but there is a lot of helpful and truthful info on CC.

Squirtlebug, the real story is that all great schools look at your background in totality - ECs, academics, essays and other personal info. All this factors in. Sometimes AOs will make dubious decisions based on the latter kinds of fuzzier data. Sometimes, they really will make mistakes. But this happens at many great schools, no reason to single Stanford out. To avoid this, they might have to rely exclusively on awards outside the curriculum and concrete results in school, and stop taking into account softer data.

For the most part, the story is exactly how Zenkoan told it. A great school filled with opportunity fosters various talents, which is what makes the school a good place to be.

@firehouse, that was harsh. Excuse me for my ignorance about schools. I obviously don’t know enough about Stanford.

OP may have a point. Based on USNWR, the middle 50% SAT score ranges and high school ranking of Stanford students are lower than those of its peers.

If you honestly were ignorant about it I apologize for my previous post.

However, I still find this weird.

I find it difficult to believe that someone who knows what Tuft’s syndrome is can still be as ignorant as you claim. Also, if you really are this ignorant about Stanford after may first (another thing I find difficult to believe since I would assume that you would research the schools you got into) it lets me know that you are not going to school here (I am probably reinforcing your decision not to go because I am kind of being a dick on this thread). I am confused about why you care if we have Tuft’s syndrome.

Again, I apologize if you actually did not know the answer to your question before you posted it. I am just an overly skeptical SOAB who is doing some hard core procrastination on a paper.

@straighttalk: maybe because stanford weighs SAT scores differently in the admissions process?
im not being defensive, but none of knows how the stanford admissions process really works, so none of us can be sure the exact reasons. all we can do is make conclusions about the info they provide.
