Does this count as being one of the few hundred 'geniuses' that HYP selects?

I think there are a lot of people who really like to protect the prestige of “genius”. I also think that a lot of people who read this are feeling like their own resume is slightly unsatisfactory in comparison. Well, you can personally give kudos to the genius, from me, the anonymous stranger who really doesn’t matter in the slightest. =)

stoompy is a ■■■■■. Check his posts

Oh. I lied about going to Stanford, I’ll admit to that. <3
But the rest of this is fine.

Even admitting to ■■■■■■■■, nothing you say will be taken seriously here my friend.

I’ll take this not as a ■■■■■ post, but as an honest post for the sake of people who might later be looking through this thread.

Statistically, I am better than your friend. I have 2400, 6 800’s, 13 5’s in AP (pre-senior year; senior year should bring the count up to 22), a 4.82 W (4.00 UW), Rank 1/760, and comparable (IMO, better) ECs.

I got deferred by Yale EA. Apparently, neither I nor your friend are what HYP are talking about when they say “genius.”

That stinks. Well maybe you’re nothing beyond your numbers. What else do you do that’s considered substantial/worthwhile besides obtaining perfect test scores?

Okay, since you asked:
-Moot Court Most Valuable Team Member, Best Speaker x3 (4 years)
-Junior Statesmen of America Chapter President, Conservative Party Chairman, Chief Justice, Regional Senator, Director of Moderating, Best Speaker x8 (4 years)
-Model UN: Head Delegate, Security Council Delegate, Outstanding Delegate x2 (4 years)
-ASB: Sophomore Class Vice President, School Board Representative, Class Senator (3 years)
-Lion’s Speech Contest Regional Winner (3 years)
-Academic Decathlon Co-President, 16 medals (3 years)
-Science Olympiad 5 medals (Both Regional and State Level) (2 years)
-Mathletes (1st in State CA Mathematics League) (2 years)
-Nuclear Club
-Volunteer for Rudy Giuliani for President Campaign
-Paid position as an Appeals Analyst for CA State Personnel Board

My Moot Court Team won the competition, my SO Team came third in State, and my Mathletes team came second in county.

And no, I am not a ■■■■■. You are free to go through every one of my posts and try to find an inconsistency.

^Maybe too many EC’s and not one or two clear passions? Though it seems to me your passion lies in government type work…Is that true? If so and you wrote a good essay conveying that, then I’m not sure. Unless they pegged you as OCD since you got a 36 on your ACT and then took the SAT and retook the SAT to get a 2400. (Not saying you are, but you’ve probably heard that adcoms could view it that way.)

christiansoldier, you have one of the strongest applications I have ever seen: you have excellent chances RD.

Nonetheless, I would have pegged your chance at around 80% for acceptance SCEA.

I think that’s a prime example of the crapshoot nature of admissions if I ever saw one.

He’s obviously not real. But people like that do exist. This one in particular however does not.

I’ll bet you $20 that I’m real.

Haha, well at least I know that with people like christiansoldier deferred from Yale, I am in good company being deferred too.

@Christiansoldier- did you mean to say your mathletes team won 2nd in county or country?

2nd in county… Country would be nice.

I knew that kid would be in when I saw this thread… I feel like vomiting now. He puts my stats to shame. AP CALCULUS BC IN 9TH GRADE?.. ■■■■. AND he got an A in it…

Christiansoldier, I’m perplexed as to why you weren’t a shoo-in… You’ll get in regular decision when they look again, don’t worry.

Dude, Ted Kacyznski, aka the unabomber, got into harvard at 16 and look how he ended up…just saying…

hm, let me just talk about a few people I heard of…

 1. A guy I know in Toronto, got accepted to MIT last year, and is a frosh in MIT right now. He won almost all of Canada’s math/science/computer competitions throughout his three years in high school. “Three years?” you might say… He completed grade 11, got accepted into MIT, and skipped grade 12. started attending MIT this year.

A very famous kid in Korea. I think he’s in his early 10s right now (probably grade 4 or 5?? I lost my sense of time…LOL) But, a few years ago, he got into Korea’s top University, Seoul National University, graduated with a top gpa. He recently got his bachelor’s, and is currently working as a researcher at a renowned facility in Korea…He also plays drums…

would you call these kids “geniuses”?
Next…

In Korea, there is a man… who works as a professor at some university. This man, once, had an IQ of 210 (I don’t know if he still does…), the highest IQ recorded in Korea (probably the world, too…??). He spoke 4 languages fluently and solved calculus, at the age of 4… He was called a genius in Korea, too.

and Finally,

Consider all of the historic figures people called “geniuses”… Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and more…

I just wanted to mention these to say that, I don’t think your friend (stoompy’s friend…) would be considered a genius in compared to 1, 3, and 4, and possibly even 2… Instead, the problem is, what is HYP’s “Standard” for "genius"es? Or, By “genius”, do HYP actually mean “well-rounded” as many others in this thread have mentioned or “exceptionally talented” in a single area?
If your friend is indeed real and got into harvard, now maintaining a 3.96 gpa, I guess he qualifies as a “genius” in Harvard’s standard, but with only what you have provided us, I think it’ll be difficult to determine if he is truly a genius.

my thoughts…
DL

and model un is a joke. it’s an excuse to blow 5k to go to the hague and smoke legal pot.

My Model UN is local. It’s like $30 a person and a three hour drive. And no, even though it’s in California, there’s no pot that I know of.

^
Christiansoldier, how long did you study every night during sophomore and especially junior year?

I’m asking because I’m going to try to imitate you.
