Does Trinity College CT give merit scholarships?

Is anyone else going to admitted students day next Saturday April 14? We registered but D24 says that the schedule hasn’t been made available yet.

We are going to Trinity on April 19. Did your D24 like the school and the admitted students day program? I’m hopeful that my S24 will visualize himself in the school and like it more now that he has been accepted.

Yes, she loved it and I’m pretty sure she will commit there. Great academics, nice dorms (more singles than I’ve ever seen), impressive cafeteria, the campus is laid out in a way that makes sense with easy access to sporting events as well as music/theater. Personally, we like that it’s in a city because there are so many opportunities for community engagement and outreach. One interesting thing to note is that the President just announced her retirement… she was there for 10 years. not sure of a replacement yet.

For the person whose son was choosing between Trinity and Oberlin last year, I just wanted to update you that my daughter chose Trinity too! They increased her merit award after we appealed, and she also got accepted to the interarts gateway program. She is so excited. Please pass along any tips for housing, moving in, things you wished you knew earlier…

That’s awesome! I don’t have a lot of advice other than to be patient. For example, last fall when my son registered for spring classes, he didn’t get most of the classes he wanted. He ended up with the two classes that weren’t on his list at all. He had a good semester anyway and liked the classes enough. Then, a few weeks ago when he registered for next fall, he got every class he wanted. Similarly, this week was housing selection for next fall, which operates sort of on a lottery system. He was so excited about the prospect of housing with a bunch of friends, but the plan went bust and he isn’t rooming in a dorm he wanted or with most of the people he wanted. It will probably be just fine and he’ll meet some new people that will become great friends. Basically, expect hiccups and then make the most of them.

Also, try new things! My son has become involved in several activities he did not do in high school. It’s really easy to join clubs and activities at Trinity. In truth, I think my son overloaded himself with activities this year (he’s also on the rowing team, which practices year round), but as he says, this will be his easiest year in terms of coursework and athletics, so he might as well load up now, try a bunch of things, and then winnow them down as classes get more difficult.

Good luck to your daughter! I hope she has a wonderful freshman year!
