Does your child drive 10 hours straight?

One note from personal experience: accepting a ride from someone you don’t know can be a very, very bad idea.

Remember that AAA membership goes with the person, not with the car.

Mine drove 8-9 hours, usually alone.

I would think a teenager/20-something year old should have no trouble with a 10 hour drive.

My son drives 12 straight to his girlfriend’s house. I don’t really worry at all (other than about speeding tickets). OHOH- I am not sure I would let my daughter do it. Her limit has been about 4-5 in her life so far.

I routinely drive 640 miles to my elderly parents in <10 hours. I could fly but it would take just as long (two legs plus airport time) and adding in a car rental at the other end would make it much more expensive. While I worry about my son driving the five hours to come home, I realize that he doesn’t tire as easily and has much faster reflexes than I (all those hours of video games). He has enough driving experience that I don’t think that is an issue. Unless there is something that makes the drive particularly challenging I would say “OK”. (Just noticed that there are 5 pages of comments, which I haven’t read.)

If I got an early start used to do Madison>NJ in around 15 hrs straight alone. Right around 900 mi.

This thread is making me feel better about my D potentially driving 5 hours by herself next year, or my S driving 13.
